The Sunday Picture Show (February 2nd, 2025)

No groundhogs here, just marmots. A 196 LE with elk and ATS-34 by WBC from 2003.
Bert, My knife has the same year and steel as yours but the frame is not scalloped around the complete perimeter.

Here's two little fellas that found a new home. The first is a nice stag Model 196 Mini Alpha Hunter that I found sitting unloved on the corner of a gun dealers table. BOS ATS-34 blade and date code 2003. The other little fella I found as a kitten years ago on the 4th of July sitting unloved along a rural roadside 10 oclock at night. Caught a glimpse of him in the headlights as we went past. I had a trailer on and had to go down the road a bit to find a place to turn around. When we got back to where I thought I saw him my wife got out and the little thing wobbled right up to her, must have been a 'dump'. Lucky night for both the kitten and us. His date code was 2008. Named him Indy for Independence Day. Indy (rip) was a great cat and bonded with one of our Pyrenees, Heidie. Whenever we walked the dogs Indy would follow, running from tree to bush etc. If he fell behind, Heidie would stop and wait for him to catch up. Great amusement for the neighbors...
He is the cat in my icon all growed up.

We used to take care of a friend's Yorkshire Terrier, Tooie, when they were out of town. She was quite a bit smaller than our Alaskan Malamute who was 30" at the shoulder, and when we went for a walk, Tooie would walk underneath Logan for protection. That got some amused comments.

That’s a wonderful story, rip Indy. 🙏

In popular culture. Groundhog Day 1993 movie Starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell. (2:36 trailer)

Happy Groundhog Day! I’ll be watching that movie this afternoon. 👍 Here’s my 2024 Christmas tin canoe and toothpick combo in faux stag.

On This Day....February 2, 1848 The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
wflYi9E.jpg

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed on February 2, 1848, ending the Mexican-American War. The treaty gave the United States 55% of Mexico's territory, including California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Wyoming. The war with Mexico began in early 1846 in the aftermath of the U.S. annexation of Texas. Texas annexation and the war with Mexico that followed took place in the larger historical context of Western expansion, Indian wars, and the growth of slavery in the West.

The United States agreed to pay $15 million in reparations to Mexico. A bargain in todays world. I could not find any hard figures but the border fence costs something like $6 to $9 million per mile to build today. Now it looks like we are going to have to pay more for anything we want to bring thru that fence... maybe we can hire Mexican Coyotes to sneak products into the US at a discount, if they can get people in, merchandise ought to be a cinch.

196 Mini Alpha Hunter with Bone and Malachite handle. Mirror polished 420HC steel. A limited edition of 200 and can be found listed in the 2008 Mid-Year catalog and the 2008 Special Projects list. A 301, 270 and 694 joins the series for a total of 4 knives. I like sets,... one purchase leads to the need for more.

Such a handsome kitty. Sorry he is gone.

While at the show my daughter and her husband came across this mini alpha and she came back and got me to see if it was a good deal, she told me how much while walking back to the table so when I got there and saw it I said YES. I have given her a few bucks over the years, but this is her first purchase.
So I thought it was really cool when I got on here and saw it started with the mini Alpha.
