Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. Above all, enjoy the show. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

This week I have some 116 Capers. Unlike all the other 100 series knives whose patterns were established by Hoyt Buck in the 40's and 50's, the 116 Caper is not an original Buck design. The knife was the suggestion of a Wyoming outfitter in the early 60's. The first ones were made from reshaped 118 blades. I remember this either from an old post or newsletter. Larry Oden also mentions it in his book.

My first knife this week is a 2-line fiber c1967-1969. I like this one for the sheath which is labeled RABUCK on the backside. Besides the sheath I selected this one to show an interesting handle feature. Looking closely at the pommel in the 3rd picture you will notice a circular outline. If a defect showed up in the pommel during shaping it would be plugged, not replaced. Early aluminum castings used for the pommels were sometimes porous. Having a spa treatment on an early 100 series knife will have a potentially small risk revealing a defect during polishing.

Another 116 for the show c.2012, a limited edition of 500. This is the partial Chip Flint version with a Buffalo Horn handle and nickel silver Elk inlay. There were 9 fixed blade knives in this series which ran from 2006 to 2014. There was also a 110 and 112. I have all of them except the 118 issued in 2010, just luck of the draw I guess. They have become a bit pricy in recent years which has made me balk when one comes up on eBay. I don't know why, but the only knife Buck did not include in this series was the 105 Pathfinder.

Skelator88 Skelator88 Nice knives. They sure look like siblings to my 116. The blade shape of the first one looks like the Expert Hunter. The second is surely unique. We first see that guard shape on the 1990 Cuthair and in 1991 on the Vanguard so I'm guessing about the same time period Custom Shop.

King Arthur's statue required a long double take.

Thank you Roger for doing the SPS every Sunday and for the great information you include with you photos. Thanks to all who post and comment to this thread.

I have two Buck 116, one, on top, has not been used. Bottom one, I do use but not as an caper. Mostly for small game...dove mostly.

The knife was the suggestion of a Wyoming outfitter in the early 60's.
The outfitter was Les Bowman. Bowman started as a pilot in the early days of aviation flying the mail. He developed several components for aircraft and then started a high-end guide/outfitter service based near Cody. In addition to the 116 Caper, Bowman is credited as a major contributor in the design of the 7mm Remington Magnum cartridge. Based on its sheath, the 116 I am showing is a 1968 model.

weather.com shows Boise with 15 days in a row 100 or higher... the record is 11 in a row if I remember right... I'd be worried but weather.com usually has a "spotty" record, and I doubt anyone can accurately do weather that far in advance. Feel for you guys in WA though 🥵
(son-in-law grew up in AZ... he thinks we're all wusses 😅 )
