Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

Missouri Compromise Map.jpg

On this day, March 3rd, 1820 Congress passes the Missouri Compromise
...and signed into law on March 6th by President Monroe. Even in the early 1800's the issue of slavery was hotly contested. Northern states wanting to limit the expansion of slavery into the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase and the Southern states to expand slave territories. Up until this point the number of slave and free states was equal (11/11). The decision was to only allow slavery South of the 36-30' parallel in the new territories The compromise allowed Missouri as the only slave state North of that parallel which was Missouri's Southern border. At the same time Maine was admitted as a free state in the North and thus maintaining an equal balance of slave/free states. I would say the "compromise" stalled the advent of civil war over slavery while at the same time hardening the divisions over slavery. Read WIKI for a better explanation than I can give.

Ironically, I just returned from Camdenton, Missouri. Unfortunately for a family funeral. Drove 20 hours across CT, NY, PA, OH, IL and Indiana. My wife's family are "lake people," out of Indiana and Kansas. It was my first time spending time in Missouri. Really pretty place. Something that really struck me, was the way people there pull over for the procession. I had never seen that before and it brought a tear to my eye. What a show of respect. In the northeast, you'll find people honking at and cutting into processions.

Anyhoo, America is a beautiful place... go see it.

No 301s for me, but yall have posted some nice ones...

Happy Sunday!

Sorry for your loss but I'm glad you got to see some more of our beautiful country. I love those floating boat docks they use down south and I would be in heaven if I owned one.

Thank you.. The floating docks on the Lake of the Ozarks were crazy... every house or couple of houses has their own covered pier....

Wifes fam was a big fan of house boats... it must get pretty crazy in the summertime...
