The Tenacious

welcom aspireonescs to ta great forum and the spydie addiction

A tenacious or persistence in a upgraded steel would be sweet. Me I am on a CPM M4 role. It would be sweet. I love my tenacious, but the continuous stropping with just opening envelopes and packages daily is getting a bit old.

I am waiting on my modded Millie M4 to come back.... Come on STR buddy, help me out... lol

I've used my Persistence cutting rope, carving wood, food prep, cardboard, etc. and it has held its edge quite well.

...it seems that when people ask for "upgraded" models they want all the bells and whistles, but don't want any of the associated costs....-Tye

Tye was trying to say more than this truncated quote above but it does convey a response I've gotten when bringing up the Tenacious II idea a couple of years ago. I don't understand why anyone would believe that people asking for a premium Tenacious would be unwilling to pay for it. Also, who's to says there won't continue to be the value priced Chinese models as well as a secondary line of premium Golden made models.

I for one really like the pattern but am not keen on the steel or manufacture location. So for people who really like the pattern and like premium steel, its great to hear that a better knife is in the works.

I'm going to predict a 154cm Golden, CO edition.

If a Golden Manix2 can be had for $70.00-$80.00, you could guess the Tenacious might run $60.00-$70.00. Not bad.

If Rob is correct (and his logic is hard to argue with) and a Golden Tenacious in 154cm gets produced, I'll be right in line to pay double the price of the cheaper one from China.

I love my Milles. Paras, Callies, Enduras, Delicas but that damn Tenacious more times then not ends up in my pocket. Yes it has junk steel but it just fits. I love the size shape and ergos. It just feels good and it IS quite the slicer. If I lose it I'm only out 35 bucks. Hands down the best knife value from any manufacturer. Sal, if a enhanced version with better steel is offered it will rock the knife world. My deposit is ready......I'm still patiently wating for my M4 Milie

I feel the same way....I have many Spyderco's but more times than not, its the one I carry. I can't allow myself to treat a $150+ knife, the same way as I beat my tenacious. Gotta love it. I hope that the new one is VG-10.

The Tenacious is a near-perfect knife. I've converted many friends from gas station specials and mediocre Buck/Gerber knives to Spyderco with the Tenacious. For $30, the lockup/rigidity of the knife is astounding. :D

My Tenacious/Endura find their way into my pocket more than my other knives because of how slim they are, their price is somewhat to blame for this as well.

But the ONLY reason I carry my Endura [which has NO resistance to side-to-side torsion] is because my freaking Tenacious is dull within 10min of use.

I would gladly pay $75 [Manix price range] for a Golden Colorado Tenacious with 154cm.

That is totally contrary to my experience with the Persistence. It also seems counter to the chemistry of the steel. Maybe there is some variation in the heat treatment between batches.

Ditto, ditto, ditto...

The Tenacious is my favorite Spyderco design. Love the feel and the blade shape. In a better steel (VG-10, 30v) it would be a homerun for me. I swear it is the fastest opening Spydie at least to my hands.

A VG-10 Tenacious with Millie style g10 handles and similar Ti-liners would be one damn sexy knife. I would pay well for one. The liners and the thicker G10 sure would lighten up the knife and make it more akin to para-millie weight. Or s30v with the the millie style g10.

I'd be content with the exact same knife with a slightly upgraded steel around the same price point.

Don't forget the same steel option for the Resilence as well. I don't own this knife, but if it were in an upgraded steel I would run to buy one.

I think the steel is appropriate for these low cost knives. Spyderco has a large product line. My friend who doesn't really need a knife - certainly not for his white collar job - has been saying for years that he'll buy one. He likes knives but has never been able to justify the purchase to himself. He's obviously not a "knife knut." Anyway, he finally bought the Tenacious. Because it's cheap and it got good reviews on Amazon. He pulled the trigger. These are great entry-level knives. They also appeal to people like me, who own the higher priced stuff but are just curious to see the quality of these Chinese-made knives.

No one wants them to discontinue to entry level model, people just want a non-entry level model as well. One that knife-nuts can get a ton of use out of w/o the constant sharpening. Maybe just a sprint run with thicker G10 and better steel; keep the entry level Tenacious though.

You can keep beating the drum of "junk" Chinese steel but it just isn't true.
Spyderco released the Manix 2 for a low cost American-made knife.

I have had the Sprint run Manix and the nromal manix and traded them both away, didnt like the design as much as the Tenacious, Have given my Tenacious away to my little brother at this point who doesnt use a knife as often as me because I was sharpening this thing at least once a day.

I would be content with a 154cm or s30v model as long as its got some nice scales and a nice blade made in the U S of A ill lay down the cash on it. For now, waiting on my Umnumzaan to arive :P
