the toughest "mini" folder?

Hey guys,

I live in Belgium, and as some know....knifes aren't really welcome there. So its my best bet to keep a rather small knife with me. My current EDC is a BM Mini-Griptilian. I'm really pleased with its performance...it's been through alot and still going strong..... :)

Now I'm thinking of buying another knife for EDC and I want a folder, about the same size (under 20cm), possibly better steel, a good lock......
Like I said; I'd like a "smaller knife"...but one that can take alot of abuse.
(preferably no sebenza, strider, or custom....coz I can't pay those :( )

these came to my mind: paramillie, mini buck strider, BM705, BM 720, buck 112, emerson mini commander, emerson CQC 7B......

ok....so what do you guys purscribe?? ;)

The BM 705 is a very sturdy little knife. I use mine as an "around the house" beater, and it has soaked up some serious abuse with no ill effects.

Edited to add that you should bear in mind that the Buck 112, though a fine knife for the price, is substantially heavier, and thus less easily carried, than the other knives you mention.

Yup, I will nominate a mini cqc-7b from emerson, have had mine on everyday for over a year personally, and I have no complaints. Wave is a fun feature, plus you can get them for abut $80 right now which is darn cheap.

Good luck!

I also "vote" for the Benchmade 705...That's one tough little folder!

I use a Spyderco Caly Jr. with PE vg-10 and its been great and less expensive than most of the knives your looking at. I've also been eyeing the BM 856D2 for a smaller EDC as the Caly is a bit wide for some of my pockets.

How about a Spyderco dodo? S30v, g10, cool ball detent lock. Mine is rock solid and definetly performs.

If you want heavy duty and not bad carry buck/strider mini is the way to go. Thick liners(lock) and scales. Bos ATS34 and gets sharp as all get out. This is the one to get if you really need a heavy duty knife. keepem sharp

You will be hard pressed to find a better small folder than the Mini-Grip.

But maybe the Spyderco Delica would suit you?

Good luck,
Allen.

I will agree with Longbow on this one...the Buck/Strider mini, either in spearpoint or tanto, is one TOUGH little knife!

720. A better cutting tool than any of the others except for the Paramilitary, and also one of, if not the stoutest.

For the money BM705 is the way I'd go. Great blade shape, great materials, axis lock, and BM has made a few differant versions for you to pick from

705 - BUT since you said toughest - buck/strider mini - its like a 705 that was beefed up 15% in all aspects. Thicker, wider, harder to carry etc.

This knife can take a licking and it keeps on clicking. When I need a small strong knife the BM 705 is on me.

I recommend the 705 too, but get one quickly because Benchmade has discontinued them. They're not hard to find now, but...

Tim Wegner Mouse II. S30V thick, but flat ground 2" blade with G10 scales.
Doesn't get much tougher (at its size) than that!

Mini RSK (Ritter Survival Knife). If you don't like the yellow it's also available in black. It's really just a mini-Griptilian with S30V steel and a wide cord drop point blade shape. That bright yellow handle and bright blade is very non-tactical.

Some good possibilities here, but don't forget the UK Pen Knife, a Spyderco very similar to the Calypso Jr. It has a 3" S30V blade, G10 scales, a deep carry wire clip (for discreet carry), and it's a slip joint.

705!

Here is my 705BT after 2 years of hard use (commercial construction), it has held up extremely well:

I own and highly recommend:
-BM705
-Spyderco/Wegner Mouse
-Wegner Mouse II

Another very tough small folder is the old BM Mini-Stryker, with the only disadvantage that it looks too "tactical" and is not so easy to explain as a simple utility knife. Another reason to choose the BM705.
