the toughest "mini" folder?

BU-881SP.jpg
Going against the grain here, but I would suggest a Buck Strider 881 SP. Before anyone jumps on me I know the lock isnt as good as the Grip, but in terms of frame, blade thickness and large pivots I think its hard to beat. Its an ugly little brute though and looks uncomfortable. surprisingly though it isnt, and I have come to like it more and more.

i am going to post a pic shortly of some of my smaller "tough" knives including a 705 and 881SP side by side

the 881sp is really like the 705's roided up genetic freak of a brother :D

Some good possibilities here, but don't forget the UK Pen Knife, a Spyderco very similar to the Calypso Jr. It has a 3" S30V blade, G10 scales, a deep carry wire clip (for discreet carry), and it's a slip joint.

Yes, VERY good suggestion. I've been wanting one of these too. I doubt they will be readily available in the US though.

Like Costas and Klattman, I would highly recommend the Tim Wegner Mouse. I've got the original Spyderco Mouse and I love it, but its just too expensive for me to carry. My wife got me the new Mouse-Lite for Christmas and it has hardly left my side since. Great, tough little package and a price that can't be beat.

Just FYI, the S30V version I reccomended is here (at twice the price of the 440C version):

The Mouse-Lite is a good choice though and if you really like it, you can always upgrade later.

John Greco's folders have a pretty good rep for toughness.

He's not selling them anymore and his internet-update person has been incommunicado for a while. :(

This probably won't even be regarded, but I really like the Spyderco Jesters. I just came upon one for free (Damaged blade) and I cleaned it up so nice!!!!! The blae is only AUS6, but there is no way that will scare any sheeple. I just think it's awexome!

My wife and I each own a Spyderco Mouse and they are the toughest really small knife I've ever encountered. From everything I've seen the Blade-Tech version is every bit as solid. It's a terrific design!

If you're willing to put up with a knife that's wide, but short and thin, you may want to check out the Spyderco Salsa. It combines a hand-filling ergonomic grip with a very short blade. The titanium version is my favorite.

And finally, I like Knifeclerk's suggestion of the Spyderco Jester. It's "just" a keychain knife but it's a great cutter and totally reliable.

hey guys,

Thanks for all the replies! and the pictures!! :)

the wegner looks sweep...and so does the Ritter grip, but these are a nono for me since they don't seem to sell them around here....:(

I'll be choosing between the 705 and the buck strider then. Probably I'll just buy the 705, cause BM stops producing them... :) I can still get the strider somewhat later.

thanks ya'all!!!!

Best wishes for 2005,
davy

of the small knives the buck/strider would be the stoutest imho, the ritter grip is also a good one, i have an older BM mini AFCK thats also a pretty good little knife. also the EKI mini CQC7 is a stout little knife, any of these four would be excellent imho.

The Wegner is only available online as far as I know. If you request, BladeArt may ship internationally? You would have to call and ask.
The Ritter can be ordered online as well.

May we ask where you are located?

I've got a buck strider 881 sp and love it. It gets used more than any other knife I have right now.

sting7777 thanks for the great pics.

Between BM705 and Buck Strider:
They might look similar, but they are not really similar at all. You need to hold them in your hand to understand the difference.

I will not say which is better, but, to simplify things, I would say:
BM705 - thin!
Buck Strider - thick!

Which appeals more to you? Your choice.
