I don’t think I’ve come across an online community whose members are as thoughtful and generous as those who frequent the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades forum aka “The Porch”.

If you have been given a knife (traditional, obviously) from another Trads forum participant via a giveaway contest or as an outright gift, please post a photo of it, along with some words about what you like about it.

I’ll start: I recently received a Victorinox Manager from SAK Guy (imagine that!). If I didn’t like pocketknives, I wouldn’t really need to carry anything else as a sub-urban stay-at-home-dad of twin toddlers.

The pen blade is more than adequate for opening packages of all kinds and sizes. The drivers are perfect for toy battery changes, and punch above their weight class. I’ll spare you a description of some of the things I’ve used the tweezers for; suffice it to say they are extremely handy. The pen has seen action signing cards for all of the birthday parties that are now the focus of my wife and my social lives. By far, though, the scissors have proven to be the most indispensible implement, from clipping stray threads to those plastic clothing tag barbs to cutting down straws at restaurants for the littles.

Thank you, SAK Guy/R-!

I would be remiss if I didn't include this. Although the Vic is considered traditional, this hatchet must be included, as it's original owner is indeed a pillar in this community, and the tales of his exploits are legendary on The Porch. As someone who has enjoyed Carl's great stories immensely over the years, it was my true delight when I won this amazing GAW. I only wish I was able to get out more than I currently do, to further enjoy carrying and using it. I even had a custom jacket made for it.

Here is the original GAW thread...

And some pics as well...

I won this in a Halloween give away! (This is actually a picture taken from the original thread) I love the Alox SAKs in general, but the orange color of this one makes it a favorite:)

I have been very blessed here on the Traditional Forum with gifted knives.

This Gerber Silver Knight was an outright gift to me from TLARbb (Ed J), after he saw a post of mine explaining that I had lost a similar one some years back.

This Boker USA sleeveboard pen knife was a gift from Will Power during a knife transaction we had together.

Won this pair in the Thanksgiving GAW. Brett aka KBA sent these fine knives as a surprise for winning.

I like the Case because its as old as I am. I like the Boker because it is so thin, and the bone is beautiful.

r redden very kindly seent me a nice large envelope last week with this fine Trapper (I like the bone and shield) some American coins 2 of which shown here (Mercury head is stunning and hard to get in Europe) Colege Cap and an interesting local newspaper! Most kind Randy, much appreciated:cool:

sunnyd who sadly no longer posts here, gave me a very nice CASE Mini Trapper just after I started in here in 07 and I was stunned by the altruism of his actions and many others on this forum. I've been very lucky with 3 GAWs too. To balance it a bit, I've given fellow members knives and they seem very appreciative, but I tend to keep a low profile about giving people stuff, just happens. One thing though, I would never give away a present I had received....

Well done this Forum I say:D:thumbup:

Old Hunter's daughter snuck up and pulled my number after she had already pulled the winners of their GAW so OH felt compelled to send this cool knife to me.
Thanks again OH

Terrific contributions, everyone.

Glenn, that hatchet is indeed a treasure.

I just received a GEC #18 Coyote from pmew. I'm recycling his photo to show it. It is the bone-handled one. My first Wharncliffe blade - love it so far!

A birthday gift from fellow Christmas baby 5K Qs (GT). I really like this scout, thanks again Gary!

It would be very unfair from me to ignore this thread as Ihave been gifted these three beauties by Mr Will. Every morning I have a hard time to decide which one will go in my watch pocket.

It's by no means one-way traffic M.Jolipapa has been most helpful and also generous, on Weds this fascinating book arrived and before that a very nice Shadow in faux Tortoise turned up. I read French actually pretty well but I can't write it or speak it much. I'm looking forward to an absorbing read.

Thanks, Will

In the nearly 20 years I've been hangin' around with some of you fine folks here and before there was a here I've given away more knives than I can remember and been on the receiving end of our community and members generosity also more times than I can count. Every knife I've received I still have and use except 1 or 2 I've passed on/payed forward to others here at BF. To everyone whose ever gifted me or that I've won a knife from, Thank You, I've appreciated and loved them all.

Some that I'd like to thank personally are Jack Black, TLARbb (Ed J), Totally Judy, Dave H (RIP), Charlie W, Duncan Matt (CM) and so many others. The porch is the antithesis of the other place I hang out, the folks here are some of the same as the other place but the Porch is as friendly and laid back as it comes, true friendships are made here. It's a safe, sane and comfortable place to hang out and really share the common hobby we enjoy so much.

Here's one of the knives I've either won or been gifted, it still gets carried and used regularly, one of my favorite Case's the single blade Sowbelly in Winter bottom Bone, thanks Ed.

I don't have any pics that I can post, but I have received several knives.

I received peanuts from Carl and Sitflyer, I've got a great photo of them at Black Hog BBQ in Frederick MD. I was gifted a Schrade 7OT Cave Bear, the first true knife I ever owned, but broke the tip off of and later sold it, by a forum member in the Schrade forum. I have won a few GAW here, can't remember what or from whom, except for a recent one, I won some Schrade OT folders. I sharpened them up and gave them to my dad, he always carried Schrade OT folders.

Glenn(bad) sent me a wonderful selection of handle materials now that I have begun rebuilding knives. He has also been very helpful whenever I ask him something. Thank you Glenn!

Primble sponsored a GAW a few years ago that had a Kentucky Derby theme - it was so intense I thought my heart was going to give way before the give-away was over! I won this stunning stag handled Case Medium Stockman that has become my ceremonial knife - carried to reunions, weddings, funerals, etc.

KrisNZ gifted me with this Camillus 886 lockback a couple of years ago - it is as stout as a Buck 110 but as thin as a Buck 500 - a very nicely made, heavy duty knife - additionally it is a "Stormin' Norman" Commemorative from Desert Storm era - General Schwarzkopf had my utmost respect.

Wazu, Kristin and I gratefully accept your thanks (again!) Glad you enjoy the knife.

I purchased my Boker Tree Brand Barlow last week and upon arrival I noticed that the package seem fairly heavy. I thought to myself that these older Barlow are " quite beefy ". I opened the packed to see my Balrow and next to it was a Case knife that completely stunned me.

I immediately begin handling it and after a couple of minutes of inspecting it, pulling its snappy strong blades and just enjoying it's good looks ( especially that beauty clip point main blade ) I contacted the seller and told him how thankful I was for this surprise gift! He told me it sat for too long unused in his collection and needed a new home. :D

Can't beat the kindness and sheer genorosity of the members here on the porch.

Here it is along with my Balrow and Ol imperial.
