The Traditional Knives Intra-forum Gift Archive

This wonderful, old Schrade-Walden 294 with peach-seed bone was gifted to me by KBA (Brett) - it is part of my EDC rotation (but, I'll admit it, babied). OH

Well done Randy, you're a very kind and generous chap :) Happy Birthday Mr K

Congratulations TB, that's a great pattern in my opinion. Well done GT

The way that friendship and kindness flows from this forum really is incredible. National borders and long distances are no barrier! I was very pleased to receive a surprisingly large parcel from Randy Redden the other day, containing a number of very thoughtful and kind gifts. I read a newspaper article about Asheville a couple of years ago, and it seems to be a very interesting place, so I’m looking forward to learning more about my friend’s home town – and sporting the T-shirts! The knives are a Sabre Barlow and a Schrade Walden small Stockman. Nice old glass-cutter too. Many thanks Randy, you’re a pal :)

Huzzah! Thanks for bumping this thread, Jack. With the recent "day at the zoo" :p I had forgotten all about it, even though I had intended to post something now that I had the chance.

This delightful care package came from Ken, a.k.a. Itsasportsbar. The curious thing was that we had initially corresponded about the knife after I'd commented on it forever and a day ago. I had somehow lost access to the email with which I registered for BFC, and I only realized it when I had to gain access to communicate with GT, a.k.a. 5K Qs, about a different matter. Sure enough, I found an email from Ken, felt guilty that I hadn't replied, and sent him some mail thanking him for his offer and apologizing for my delay. Well, I was certainly surprised when he responded right back and made a second offer out of the blue. Needless to say, I was humbled and surprised. There seems to be no end to the generosity we see on the porch, and I for one am glad we have this little community to indulge in our shared passions. So, without further adieu...

That there is a Case bartender's knife in absolutely beautiful green jigged bone and an alox SAK Classic. I spent a good long while CF & CE the Case, while the SAK positively jumped onto my keyring like it was born to be there. Along with those two beauties, Ken sent along a very nice Nova Scotian penny from 1864. Seeing as how I had a number of coins from my collecting days stolen from a storage facility a little while ago, I hadn't really collected anything notable since. So this coin serves as my reintroduction to numismatics, and it's one heck of a start.

Thank you, Ken. I am massively appreciative of the effort you went through to send me such a thoughtful and delightful gift. I'm looking forward to giving the big Case its first cork-duty in its new home after the work week ends. There's a bottle of Shiraz waiting for me already. :D

That Bartender's Knife is very interesting TB, congratulations  Well done Ken, very generous

"Gunstock done right" with a side of "yowza!" Looks fantastic, highly functional, and matches some of my other green Cases perfectly. The SAK was also excellent, I now realize what I've been missing without some alox in my life. :)

Looking forward to an opportunity to pay it forward in the near future.

Very nice haul. I'm inclined towards that Barlow, of course, and that radio jack is a real beauty!

Wonder if I could turn one of my wooden 4-line TL-29s into a radio jack...

Well done Jack and Bob, really nice knives Randy

You're welcome Tsar!

Enjoy the knives and the wine.

I've been away for a few days due to a hard drive failure. Once replaced it seems everything is O.K. now.

Have a good one!

I have been absent from the forums since March. A new job and moving the family to a new state has kept me busy. The porch was the first place I came when I had some leisure internet time. It was great to catch up on some ongoing discussion and nice to see some very thoughtful giveaways. I'm glad to be back.

Last December, Modoc ED sent me two GEC knives. To say I was touched is an understatement. My kids were also amazed by the kindness. The beerscout has been a constant companion since then and the Bullnose get used nearly every weekend. I actually thought I lost the bullnose for a short time and I was really bothered about it so I bought a replacement, only to find the original within a week.

I have been the recipient of Bladeforum generosity on a couple of occasions now. I did a thread on Richards Knives a while ago and mentioned a knife I'd desired as a lad but failed to get before they disappeared from the shops in the mid 1980's. Before I knew it R.c.s. gifted me the very knife I was thinking of. Cant describe the gap that little knife filled for me or the floods of nostalgia I feel when I pick it up and take it to work, which is often. A very meaningful gift. I was talking once about the relative expensiveness and unavailability of American folders in England and Will Power mentioned he had a couple of U.S.A. knives that might do me until I could find/afford what I was looking for. Couldn't believe what arrived in the post, two amazing Case Knives. I actually ended up giving my Father one of these knives on his 70th birthday (with Wills approval) after he'd previously admired it. The other one (the stag/bone peanut) is a prized possession and one of the best knives in my small collection. I haven't yet come up with anything comparible in terms of quality, value and meaning to pay forward, but believe me I'm working on it and look forward to making someone as happy as I was when I received these gifts. Thanks again guys. :)

I received this package from Jack the other day. Two great books on Yorkshire, a couple of neat old coins, a great wood and brass level a patch and a pin depicting a white rose an Italian Maserin knife and my first Sheffield Lambsfoot and a great post card. Thanks Jack.
