John Deere's tractor manufacturing plant is in Bettendorf, Iowa. (1 of the "Quad Cities"; Rock Island, IL., Moline, IL., East Moline, IL., Bettendorf, IA, and Davenport IA. ..."Quint Cities" never took hold with the natives after Bettendorf was added.)

Bettendorf has or had ALCOA, John Deer, Catepillar - both engines and heavy equipmant, and a International Harvester farm tractor and farm implement manufacturing plants. (I think the IHC plants have shut down in the years since I left Iowa in 1988.) I believe there was also a Cummins engine plant, as well, and of course the main campus of the Scott (County) Community College. so the "THEY"/"THEM" decided to add Bettendorf, creating the "Quint Cities".

(When I attended SCC in the mid 1970's they had other "campuses" for auto mechanics, auto body repair, welding, truck and heavy equipment repair, and other trades, plus an remote administration office.
The auto repair and administration were in downtown Davenport, across the street from the YMCA. The autobody repair classes eere in one of the buildings at the Scott County Fairgrounds. When I attended SCC in the early 1980's they had moved the remote campuses to the main campus, and had closed the downtown admin office.)
