The Trebuchet...

Thanks Roger!
I kind of like it more now too!

I got a few comments at the show saying that it now looks a little like a sundial, and I agree... :)

Hahaha! Sorry Patrice, I was holding back on sending you a link to this beauty. I didn't want to distract you from your winged beauty! I'm glad you found it on your own so I don't feel guilty!

I also love it. Very much! It's one of my favorite knife and stand combinations I've ever seen.

I know you have made a few boxes, but nobody can accuse you of thinking in one.

VERY nice piece!

Can't stop looking at the pics...

Kind regards,

Jos

Sheesh. When does the bidding start?

This thread needs to be bumped up every month for the next five years. :D

Coop

Bidding?? What bidding?? It's already spoken for.

Looking at it every day will be much better than checking out a thread once a month.

Love those imaging skills of Magnus, but this package may need one more image............

Bob, I had a sneaky suspicion that you would pick this one up. Good for you, great catch.

It may not be a Warenski or Erickson, but it IS from the mind of design genius, IMHO. I thought it was absolutely magnificent from the moment I saw it. Call it a trebuchet, a sundial, a scalpel - whatever you want - but it's glorious in shape and design, start to finish. Just superb work by a master. Thanks.

My heartfelt thanks to you all for your comments!

Especially to you Bob, it is an honour to have another knife in your collection and also to read those kind words!

Regards

I'm really glad for you on this one. You have a knack for picking up head-scratching knives that defy traditions, while offering smiles to every onlooker.

A+ knife and acquisition.

One could never hope to capture all this knife/stand/box/ in a single rectangle or even two. I find Magnus' photography to be on par with his creative energy: As good as it gets.

Bravo!

Coop

I'm a knifemaker. This knife makes me wish I was a knife collector. I honestly have 20+ views of this knife. This might push me into the "art" knife world. :-)

Bob I thought about you the first time I enjoyed seeing this one. It just seemed like a piece you would want to display somewhere. What a fine choice, it is another stunning piece of work from Magnus. He can build and is surely creative.

Congratulations, Jon

ABSOLUTELY the coolest knife/sculpture/display i've seen Magnus. I think a damascus latch on the box would be really fitting.

CONGRATS Bob! I can easily see why you would grab that!

Peter

Congratulations, Bob! Would love to see a pic of how you decide to display this artwork after it arrives at it's new home.

Rob, I've shown Magnus kind of what I have in mind. It will be displayed in the box, on a well-lighted counter next to/beside/around stand-mounted pieces, including a very large Mardi Meshejian damascus "Symbol of Authority", a Serge Panchenko relic, a Magnus Axelson "Icepick" and Jean Marc LaRoche's "Cobra".

I'll try to get some pics when it gets finished.

Bob

Within the last week, I received the "Trebuchet" from Magnus in Sweden. As mentioned in the post immediately above, it will be put into a "collection within a collection" for display purposes, with pieces by a few makers whose names have a rather international ring to them.

I've decided to put together several of the posts from this thread in a closing post, which when taken together, really speak about this piece as something very special.

"What I love about this piece is everything. I don't simply look at it, I visually caress it."

Coop suggested this thread be re-posted every month, the piece being so magnificent:

"Looking at it every day will be much better than checking out a thread once a month.
Love those imaging skills of Magnus, but this package may need one more image............"

So let me use this final post of mine to express my real appreciation for this piece and Magnus' abilities in creating it so artfully.

Thanks, Magnus!

Best,

Bob

I just ran across this thread again and couldn't resist looking it over and commenting - about the great design genius of Magnus Axelson.
