I pretty much did this. I dulled it down a bit about a 1" up the reverse side because I also instinctively put my thumb there too. Now it's still sharp, but it's more like the splitting side of a double bit. Convexed and "sharp enough"After playing with them for a few days, I can already tell I’m gonna cut my thumb. I sometimes put my thumb along the spine of knives while doing certain tasks. I may dull them about 1/2 way down the back of the blade just to help with that some.
One thing I am really glad they did was round and smooth the ring. A lot of ring knives they don’t round the edges and they can cause small cuts and aren’t as comfortable as these with the rounded edges.
Once I get my sheaths they’ll go on my battle belts
