I've got all three.
Among the three, sitting on the table the clear winner would be the classic bowie, the 17. Just something all-American about that blade shape. Next would be the 5/15 "steak" knife. 16 would be last. I have other knives that I'd skin with first, and other knives that are superior batonners.
Now pick them all up and it changes. Well, the 15 and 17 change places, anyway. 15 just feels "right" in the hand, the 17 looks right in the hand -- but a little something is missing; the 16 is, well, just a knife in the hand.![]()
If you wouldn't mind, how did the 17 not feel right? How did the 15 feel better? What didn't you like about the 16? I can only get 1...
Now we're talking minor subtleties, here, CZ9R. Any of the three are great tools (and a great clean palate to do mods). There is SO much more that is personal preferance than just someone's opinion of "feel".
For me, the longer-feeling blade of the 15 seemed to balance better. I mentioned I liked the Bowie look of the 17, and it felt nice -- probably the 15 was JUST A HAIR balanced better than the 17. There is something about drop point blades that I just don't like (maybe not pointy enough?), so if finished last for me.
You'll be happy with any of them.
