The Ugliest knife

This is my first knife from start to finish all by myself.

Definetly not one for the pretty catagory, but it was my first. I'm very proud of it and carry/use it almost every day at work. It is a cable knife. I was sick and tired of the crap knives that were issued to us and finally got around to making my own. Since then I have made my wife a kitchen knife which gets used several times a day. And I made myself another knife that would be an everday carry if I ever get around to learning how to make a sheath for it.

Funny thread :p

For me, it's a toss up between this one:

Ugly tanto/serration/bottle opener experiment...ended up being my "shop knife" :D

...and this one:

My first forged blade...mind you, even if it's kinda ugly, I love this knife! The handle is really comfy, and the edge holding is the best among all my kitchen knives. It also reminds me of the nice day I spent making it with my friend Bob Mayo

I almost forgot about this one. An early experiment with variable quenching. The handle is a simple piece of pine coated with clear coat. Its also my only hidden tang knife. To make the notch for the tang, I first heated the tang and used that to burn the pattern in one of the handle scales. I then used a bench grinder to gradually remove enough to ensure a snug fit. I then just sandwiched the tang between the scales and attatched them with wood glue. (Its all I had at the time.) The handle is surprisingly comfortable for its shape.

Here's a blade on a stick that I had almost forgotten about; 4-1/4" blade, hammered out of a file of course. Stick tang. Lilac handle. It's actually fairly handy. Don't ask me why I made the sheath like that because I Don't Know :D

THe first knife shaped object that I made- non heat treated steel that was still quite hard and got sharp, but also made to order to look like that.
