The Umnumzaan, with words and pictures

Best pics I've seen of this knife. I drool over this knife everytime I see one!

Great pictures, and a great review!

It's always nice when people carry and use a knife for a couple months before they review them. It's waaaaaaay better then reading/watching a review of a knife that just come out of the box or out of the safe to be reviewed!!!

Great work!

That's just how I feel about it too. There are way too many "first impressions" reviews
that spend 5 minutes telling us what the knife looks like and what it's made of. :p

Turn on light before using knife.

Just saying.

Great photos, thanks!

Here is a pic of the spacer in darkness, it does help alot having something like that to look for. I find it's alot better than having to use a light and then being "blind" for 20+ minutes again any way.

Haze,

Very informative review and pictures of a working knife. Mine is due in next week. I am very excited.

Very nice and very thorough review of a great knife. I had one that ultimately found a new home, but I have nothing negative to say about the 'Zaan at all. I posted a series of vids that compare a large Seb to the 'Zaan. The third one, which I'll try to embed below, has a teardown comparison, which you don't see very often.

I will probably wind up buying another one at some point... :D

Fantastic video comparison reviews. I watched all three videos and they are well done. Thanks for providing the link and taking the time to put those together.

Thanks for the great review and pictures.

Just wondering how you would rate the umnum against the large Sebenza?

Thanks again for the nice words people. :)

Thanks for the great review and pictures.

It would be a bit of a tough choice to choose one or the other IMO. The Umnum has been my EDC for a few months and I have used it for a heap of stuff. Before the Umnum I carried a large regular or a CQC-12 for all the same type of things. The Umnum has been everything the Seb has been and a bit more in some respects. I like the ergos on the Umnum more I think but the large regular is just such a familiour knife to me it's hard to let it go. :p

If you pulled out the pliers and oxy-torch I would probably say go for the Umnumzaan...............

Great review! This prompted me to go to my local dealer (Scott Moore in Northern CA) and pick one up this week. Holding off on giving details since I've only used it for two days but so far I can tell it is going to be my main EDC for a long time!!!

WOW, you went for the umnum  I have been carrying a large sebbie for the last couple of years and really love it. I have Striders and Spydies and some others but none of them ever get carried because the sebbie works so well for me.

I keep looking at the umnum and wonder what it will be like, maybe I should try one out after all.

Bye the way........... My sebbie is off centre by a fraction of a millimeter when closed. Should I send it back for repairs??? :D:D:D:D:D:D

Had a 'zaan, found it a new home. I prefer the easier access of the Classic/21 for opening and unlocking, but this is personal preference. I am sure I will buy another 'zaan at some point, but personally I prefer the ergo balance on the Classic/21 to the regular and the Umnumzaan. YMMV!

Haze posted a link to this thread and while I was admiring the pics I noticed my posts in this thread below, so even though it's a necrothread I thought I'd bring it back up because of the pics and so that I could say that I did in fact buy another one, and this one's a keeper for sure. :)

I really like your review. So you have a sebenza? If so you ought to write a sebenza review
:-)

Thanks again and a Sebenza review is something I could easily do. :)

I would also like to say that I have carried that Umnumzaan since this was originally posted and my opinions have not changed. It's just a great knife and this thread could probabaly be bumped in another couple of years and I'll say the same thing again.
