The (un)Official SDFK Thread

If you're worried about the spine on the signature series chewing up your baton, just flip it over and beat on the edge. It looks like she'll take it.

Hell yeah man. The blade is much thinner on the Kephart and FK’s, along with many other knives, and it doesn’t seem to be a concern. With the thick blade stock of the SDFK, the minor swedge shouldn’t even be an issue.

Swipe these concerns to the round file 🍻

Well, yes. That's true.

People wanted a signature series and one of our signature characteristics are weight reduction through skeletonization. Even leaving it solid at the very butt, This window cut in the tang changes the dynamic of the knife where it no longer balances on the first finger but an eighth of an inch ahead which will make it tip heavy and unstable during changes in grip and use. I have to do something to take the weight out of the end or it won't handle right. So yeah, it may not play as well with a baton but, without a fuller, I feel that it needs something to remove the weight from the tip to get this back in balance.

I would like to think that other makers sweat these important details, and I'm sure that some do; but I don't know any who continue to give us these peeks behind the curtain in the development process. I'm here for it!

Ok, just caught up to this whole thread, and my comment is: Take my money!

and for the chilluns and newbies, the whole 'two weeks!' thing goes way, way back to the earliest days of Busse Combat Knives (before my time) when Jerry Busse announced and took orders for the then new Battle Mistress. They were all hand ground and two weeks became two years. Still better than K***** and S*****

There are a couple who do. RMJ for sure does on Facebook.

Is it bad that it only took me about two seconds to figure out who both K and S were?

Speaking of Kurvive! and in the spirit of adhering to Nathan's wishes not to shyte on that "guy" on Nathan's sub, I received a text message earlier today from one of the very first OGs on here, most of you newer CPK'ers may not be familiar with (name rhymes with Dustin Thornier). Anyhoo, our long term buddy wanted to know how things were going and what Nathan and crew were up to and also sent me a screen shot of a Kurvive! Snife named TSK, wishing that Nathan would get into doing something small and thin like that (well because we all know that Nathan's two weeks are at worst within the same calendar year unlike some of these other "guys"!). I told our mutual friend that Nathan was going to do a HDFK on steroids named SDFK and also doing a Keffeler collab sword again. Told him that he may wanna circle back in a few months to check out the DEK2 & 3 models for those eager on the smaller thinner CPKs.
