The (un)Official SDFK Thread

Yeah, sorry. I thought sheaths would be the bottleneck but it ended up being heat treat.

And we still have finished grinding, straightening, tumbling, sharpening, assembly etc... I would love to drop 40 all at once but it's not going to happen
I hope somebody let R ronnie hood know so he doesn’t unnecessarily miss any work.

Sorry if I have missed this Nathan, but will there be a difference in role or use between the ordinary and the special versions of the SDFK?
I think so. Probably. Yes. I see the standard basic SDFK as designed for the kind of work where you would normally be afraid to even use a knife. It can literally take anything you can dish it. Whereas the signature series lives in desk drawers to open envelopes but not boxes because it might get sticky tape on it.

Except for me where I will ruin the finish on every surface, sharpen it by hand with uneven angles, leave it wet and soaked in its sheath for days on end, and use the swedge to skin and pry joints apart

Classic response! 😁 I resemble both sides of this customer assessment depending which knife I am talking about. 🤔

^ To my point above:

I don’t baton twisted knotty hardwood for fires very often. When I do, I use my Basic Field Knife without fear of damaging a fancy finish.

The BFK rocks for its intended purpose. I am sure that the Basic SDFK will be even better in that role for those who like bigger knives.

On the flip side, I have not had the opportunity (thankfully) to use my Boot Dagger for its intended purpose. I hope this one stays unused…

P.S. for Grenock Grenock - I know how your mind works. I said "twisted knotty hardwood", not "twisted & naughty hard wood." ;)

Was going to go for a sig , but the basic sounds perfect for what I want it for!

You forgot important kitchen applications.
