The unappreciated box cutter (boxcutter)

You might want to check out the CRKT Edgie. It has two strips of diamond hones (iirc) in the handle, which sharpen the knife every time you open and close the knife. Self-sharpening, cheap. Only problem is, it might not be very flat.

Thanks, but I'll stick with this knifelette. At $14.95 or summat, how can I go wrong? The CRKT is the same knife, almost, for what, double the price? I can use my SharpMaker to keep this little AUS-6 tool fiercely honed, and then tuck it invisibly into my shirt pocket.

I have one of those gerber money clips...I have to say it is the worst knife I have ever bought...I would go with the CRKT PECK for sure.

What they DID have, and I bought ($15), is the Ridge by Gerber (Teflon Coated, 1.4oz), which looks almost identical to me:

Yes, funny how Gerbers often look nearly identical to CRKTs. I have an Evo that bears a close resemblance to an M16. Maybe CRKT could change its name to "Gerber R&D?"

Is the Edge (Edgie?) a chisel grind like this Gerber? I don't want sharpening issues ... :( (I knew it was too good to be true).

There are also these, which would seem very useful.

And numerous lockback/linerlock/speed assist razor boxcutters, which might be a bit more elegant to use than the typical $.99 utility knife.

I'm not sure, but I don't think it has a chisel grind.

Shecky, that looks exactly like what I'm looking for! I wonder how long those blades last, if they're replaceable or sharpenable, where the items are made, or if anyone here has one....?

Weasel, I've had problems in the past using my Sharpmaker on a chisel grind with a contained 30 deg angle. AFAIK, the SM is not set up to do these blades unless you move off the vertical, but perhaps you can advise further, since this is not my area of expertise due to time contraints.

The pictures from CRKT and NGK do not look like the knife is chisel ground.

You can't see the left edge very well in the CRKT picture, but you can see the right edge. Opposite is true for the NGK picture.

Edgie looks nice, albeit not the ultra-slim profile I was really hoping for. But it's definitely a contender.

Just want to weigh in with a positive post for the Edgie...I bought one a couple weeks ago...and I love it. I cut boxes and carton tape all day at work...and it seems that stuff loves to dull knives. The Edgie is razor sharp...every time you open it. It is a very rugged little knife and seems very well made as well. The one handed opening/closing takes a bit of getting used to...but it is pretty easy once you get the feel of it. I realize it is hardly a "high end" knife...but I have to be honest...to me, and what I do...it is the best 20 bucks I have ever spent on a knife.

I don't have one, but I agree, it must be incredibly useful to carry for tasks you don't want to use your more expensive knife for.

Well, I simply don't like this Ridge knife, so I'm off to Mallwart in a huff to take it back. Hrumph!

Hardly ever avoid buyer's regret, and especially not this time.

Hmm, the Edgie is made from "Steel: 420J2, 54-56 HRC". I guess that fact and the gimmickyness of self-sharpening turns me off.

Still looking for a tiny, flat, light, high quality steel pocket knife.

Just FYI: the reasons I don't like the Ridge are: Gerber, when contacted, didn't even know the angles used in grinding this knife, thus giving me a bad feeling about the whole dang product. Also, opening the knife with the "money folder" removed is very difficult, since the hand has little to hold on to. Lastly, with the lock exposed you have to be extremely careful not to disengage the liner lock while cutting something. Self-inflicted injury is a possible problem, and I even read a post here by someone who had to have microsurgery on his finger when a similarly-designed KISS knife cut him.
