Talking of Woods, if it becomes an option could Olivewood or Juniper be considered? I know they're uncommon on American knives but they feature strongly on European ones and with good reason- looks, durability and with Juniper, the fragrance

Osage could be good as it's very tough stuff, inexpensive and looks wonderful at first but it does tend to darken to a less appealing look pretty quickly- it's OK if it has a lot of stripes/grain but if not it can be turd-like....;)

Blackwood & Ebony are always favourites and with good reason (Ebony tends to vary so some might not like it unless it's Jet...) But it has been done before on the same pattern in 2019...for matching enthusiasts OK but I think it merits something different . we'll see :)

Back to the bone.

One of GEC's jigged bones that is worth considering could be COUGAR CLAW it offers great grip!

Mass1632 Mass1632 , to answer your question, this is Red Soup Bone; photos borrowed from the internet. It is bone with character marks dyed a deep rich red. Charlie @waynorth made it famous by using it on one of his Barlows. I believe it has only been produced once. It is reminiscent of the gorgeous Case Red Bone vintage Barlows but even more beautiful.

Red Soup Bone is absolutely exquisite. It is actually more beautiful in real life than in the photos. As far as I know, only Charlie and GEC can make it this way. That’s it.

If you could find a Red Soup Bone Barlow for sale, which is 99.99% impossible, it would cost a small fortune. Now we have a chance to have one made especially for us at a price just north of $100! Think about this. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Plus, we are extremely fortunate to have Charlie’s input to make sure it is done right.

We all know this could be the last year for a GEC Forum Knife, and it is a Grand Daddy Barlow to boot! If so, let’s go out with a bang! And finally, Red Soup Bone is as close to Narwhal as we are going to get!

If red soup bone becomes an option, it would definitely be my choice. It is one of the best red dyed bones GEC has ever done.

Here it is with sunlight.

...and without direct sunlight.

Consider me all in on red soup bone. Those look fantastic. Greg is right about going out with a bang! If it isn't the last GEC BF knife, then that is great news + we have a sweet new soup bone barlow!

Ivory or red Soup Bone would be fantastic, though I dare say there'd be the odd poster whose bone wasn't soupy enough for them  Smooth Ivory Bone would also look good I think, and go with the pattern. I like dark woods, and Ebony or African Blackwood would look great, but as has been pointed out, we've had that recently

The Smooth Parchment Bone on some of Charlie's first Ancient TC Barlows looked pretty good too :)

I don't have strong feelings regarding the options presented as I would be happy with any of them. That being said, sawcut bone would be nice if bone is the choice and ironwood would make a great wood option.

Okay, that red soup bone is some pretty stuff...

I hope we are able to vote on two of our options. I just dont think i could pick just one.

It seems pretty much every conceivable option has been presented, I am not jealous of @waynorth having to narrow it down! I love the idea of:

red soup bone
smooth natural autumn bone
sawcut bone
african blackwood or ebony
smooth ivory bone

Basically I love them all haha

I always associate sawcut bone with Barlows, so in my opinion this would be most traditional.

With that said, I do love smooth ivory bone.
