The venerable Hawkbill!

Thanks Sunnyd, Mike :)

Sunnyd that is one fantastic vintage hawkbill, very impressive...I am more impressed with with the quality and history your knife may have seen than ten custom jobs!!!! I will continue to be blown away by history in our hands :D , and that is what moved me into knife collecting and evidently still keeps me here...:p Where in the world did you pick up that slice of history..? Oh yeah I have to admit much ignorance on the Schrade SD, I have no idea of it's vintage..

Hey Mike,

It's funny you mention that, I meant to take it today but my ole carbon blade Case jumped into my pocket. It will make it to the Orange grove next week though, maybe even peel a juicy tangerine before going back into the pants pocket..;)

Take care gents,

Sunburst

Revolvergeek,
Great old Camillus Hawkbill..

sunburst,
Thanks for your kind words about my vintage Northfield Knife Co. Hawk'r.

I used to do all the local Knife & Gun shows here in neighboring West Palm Beach, Florida at the Palm Beach County Fair Grounds as a seller/vendor for about a year or so back in 2002 and 2003 before the shows owners loosened up the rules of engagement and started accepting any vendor selling anything as long as they had table-fee money:jerkit: :( :grumpy:  :thumbdn: .. But, eh~umm, pardon me I digress.

.. Anyway while the shows were still about the good ole boys and their traditional guns and knives I used to split a set of three tables with this one other fellow and his wife and I got to noticing his knives, and he mine, and after some horse trading one very slow show he got a refinished(I used to hand/pro clean old slippy's) 1973-74 Case double blade jack knife in brown bone that he always liked as it brought back the good old days for him from one he had lost 20 some years before or some such,, and I got the Northfield Hawk in trade.. We both walked away happy that day even though we did not sell much.:)

I recently acquired this knife... not sure if it is a true hawkbill but it is an old pruning knife. It has a solid flat piece of brass inserted into the butt end and brass bolsters. The mark on the blade is Slater Venture. I am thinking from the between wars era. Has great snap, nice worn look to the scales and seems like a quality carbon steel blade.

A. Wright makes a recent knife with less curve to the blade like that, s-k. I'll have to scan mine and put it in for comparison. Nice one! What's the length??

Whoa! Sunburst, that is one fine looking mod of a Case Hawkbill. Takes a good, modern work knife and shows that it can also be a fine looking knife you can show with pride and still use.

Pretty as it is, it looks like it would be a great EDC.

Congratulations sunburst, and MM, on a fine knife! The lowly hawkbill elevated to elegance!
The nice thing about customizing a factory knife is it keeps it in the range of a someone's wages for a day or two, instead of wages for a week or two like a full custom! EDC indeed!!

Heya fellas, how did I miss a thread about one of my favorite patterns? There is an awsome lot of hawkbills here! I have never seen anyone customize hawkbills before, and since it was one of my favorites I figured, why not? I have a few, but somehow I always get talked out of my customs :p. I do have a few yet, I have a real nice kutmaster, good steel, good spring and I reshaped th blade to be more pocket friendly like WN's tony bose (3rd from bottom). I fixed up the origional handles, but eventually when I find the free time I plan to rehandle it in desert ironwood with some filework. Here is a scan of most of my current ones, a couple in the picture (the schrade for example) have been customized and sold. I have added a couple since the pic too.

I got it off ebay. I'll have to check and see if I still have the seller's ID around anywhere.

Update. I looked back through all my invoice emails and it looks like I didn't save that one. Figures, it's always the one you need to find. I'll keep an eye out and if I find something, or come across one on the bay I'll let you know.

Here are a couple, both schrade waldens. The first has a craftsman etch and a really nice shaped handled the other is a flatter handled model with no etch.
