A few months ago I got a Cold Steel Trail Hawk in trade. While I don't think it will ever replace my axe, for mild weather it works well. I think where a hawk shines is the ability to remove the head and use it for tasks other than chopping. Any way I did a vid and took some pics. Sorry about the length of the vid.

I got 3 of them and like them alot. Like you said, won't replace an axe, but still very versitile. Thanks IA. Moose

Cool video IA, puts the versatility of that hawk into perspective. I suppose I am one of the weird ones but I prefer hawks over axes because of their greater versatility and lighter weight...plus I live in the south where it never really gets all that cold and the most snow a shelter is likely to need to support is a few inches. I get a lot more use here out of a hawk than I do an axe.

Nice video! I have a few trailhawks too. Love 'em.

Never thought to use one as an adz, good thinking.

Hey they are also alot of fun to throw, and modify too.

Watched it right before bed last night.. made me think about getting a trail hawk all night. Great vid

Great vid IA. I actually just watched it, then came here and saw the posting, lol. Definitely has me thinking about a hawk.

I went through so many hatchets and axes before I discovered hawks. I've had the same hawk now for almost 20 years. I bought two handles and the hawk for $20 and I'm still using the first.

The thing I like most is the head doesn't come off while you're using it be comes off very easy for packing to using as a different tool.

Great video, by the way!

The tomahawk really is a knife on a stick. Until you get to manipulate them for tasks other than typical axe use, you can't really comprehend just how useful such a simple, durable and lightweight tool can be. I use my hawk for camp cooking even-makes for a great ulu style knife for chopping veggies and slicing. I'm not a huge fan of the trail hawk itself-the head is so long and skinny that the bit doesn't make for the most ideal chopping tool-but the norse hawk, frontier hawk, and all of the frontier cousins (poll and spike hawk) are awesome tools for bushcraft and survival.

I've been using my trailhawk like this for years. It is very versitile. I too got rid of the set screw. I found the the trailhawk, and a smaller fixed blade will do most of what I need to do in the woods.

Great video IA!

Wasn't too long at all!

I bet you never get tired of hearing that eh...

:D

A great video.

I was just looking through the new Cold Steel catalog, and those are priced at $29.99.

I am going to order one come Monday. ;)
