The virtues of informed criticism

STevie, listen to your brother Joey and let it go. Refer back to post #65. It still not a good idea to piss into the wind, no matter how bad you think you need to go.:D

just thought I should point out that two knife makers have posted up pics of their work since this thread started, both of whom have directly asked for critique.
And yet, has anyone who's bemoaned the lack of discussion/critique offered either of same for these willing makers? Not a one.
I rest my case.

Your case rests upon shaky foundations, my friend. I only saw one of the two you reference - Tad Lynch. I commented on the knife. I commented on the in-progress pics subsequently posted. I didn't offer any criticism because I have none. I love the knife as-is and would buy it if it were available. There isn't anything I would change. Are you suggesting people should offer criticism just for the sake of being critical?

Again no one pulls over a cop to argue with him

When a moderator is contributing to a thread and engaging in negative sentiments he should step done from his moderator position and speak as a member and give up his infracting powers in that particular situation

This is not or will it be the case here gentleman

I do not want to loose any of my knucklehead friends on here at X Mas time so lets all move along :)

Roger I am pumped for this years Bowie contest even thou I can't enter my Khukuri :)

I wasn't thinking of Chuck's post with a picture of Tad's knife, although several posts down Tad DID ask for critique. There were at least two other threads, started by the makers, where they clearly asked for feedback, and didn't get anything from the folks I mentioned previously.

Lorien - I don't read every thread. I wish I had the time for that, but I don't. My point is that the absence of criticism isn't proof of the fact that those who think it important don't exercise the option when asked. It may be that they don't have anything specific to suggest. It may mean that they didn't even see the thread. It may mean any number of things.

I post here always looking for feedback good or bad. I do this to see what people like or dislike about my knives so I can try to make a knife that more people like.
I will say that suggestions and comments from STeven and J P have helped me on my journey to be a better maker.

Great attitude.

I quite agree.

And I think we've just finally seen Karda's examples of how to offer criticism without being rude. But it wasn't precisely what I was expecting.

Feels good to be openly criticized in a rude manner, even if it happens to be truthful or spoken as you see it, doesn't it?
It does wonders for the forum.........doesn't it?
Yet, some of you are still arguing that you have a "right" to do so.
On the basis of common decency..... you don't.

This wasn't personal and spoken in generalities, until a couple of you decided to take it there.
It would just be nice if could be taken as well as it is dished out.
