Friends, I know how much we love our Walking Dead here, even if it is only the the TV series  but as they always say, never forget your roots. Well issue #100 of the comics came out today, and it promises to be really nasty and gruesome, two great adjectives in zombie fiction.

THE GOODS
If you were at any of the release events, you could've gotten this special package:
twd%2520100.JPG

If you weren't... today's your lucky day! You have a chance to win this!

Notes:
  • I actually have not opened the poster because it's sealed in plastic. So you'll have to take it as it is in case the link above is wrong, 'cause I just don't know for sure
  • This really is the same comic served nine different ways, so take this as a collectible prize and not as a practical one. Feel free to read it, of course.

THE RULES
To enter, simply post:
  1. What you think about The Walking Dead, the TV series or the comic or the franchise in general, so on. Something thought-provoking, critical, interesting to read. Not simply, "I like it 'cause of Daryl and his TG," or, "WOOOO ZOMBIE KILLIN'!"
  2. You just got through killing a whole mob of zombies, only to realize you got bit. You don't know when you'll turn. What are you going to do? Feel free to get creative! (Who you're with, where you got bit, your preferred body part to eat after you turn, etc.)
  3. Your best picture of your preferred zombie-killing Busse or kin.
You gotta earn this one

THE WINNER
The winner will be chosen on the evening of Tuesday, July 24 by thoughtfulness and awesomeness of his or her post. Items will be mailed out as soon as possible.

GOOD LUCK.

I love The Walking Dead TV series. Haven't read many issues of the comics mainly but I do like what I have read but the show is the first show since The X-Files that has got me hooked. I originally tuned in cause I thought "cool a show about zombies, I'll give is a try" and while zombies are a big part of the series, it's the human interaction and moral decisions the characters make that really makes the show.

Most shows or movies when I see a character do something I either agree or disagree but with TWD it makes me think to myself what would I do in that situation and even if I don't agree with a character's actions, I can usually understand it. It actually made me question my own morals and humanity. For instance, in the ep Save the Last One, it made me think could I use another human being who is not hostile towards me as bait in order to save myself and/or a loved one? As much as I hate to say it I came to the conclusion that I probably could if put in that situation (though I hope I'd have the strength not to). Another example is in the ep Judge, Jury and Executioner when the group are deciding the fate of Randall, I kept thinking to myself in a world with no law and order, would it be right to execute a person based something he may or may not do or has done? You have no way to prove his guilt (though I personally think Randall was dangerous). Our courts say if you can't prove one's guilt, set him free but again because there is no law, it's a much harder decision. Do you set free a person who may or may not be a threat to you an your family or do you kill him. I've always tried to be fair to others but again in that situation, I found myself thinking more like the character of Shane. I'll do whatever it takes to keep my family and myself safe. I love how TWD makes me really think about things like that. I love the emotion of the show too. SPOILERS!!!!!

I actually choked up a little when I saw Sophia walk out of that barn. Even though I identify with many if not most of Shane's decisions, I was rooting for his death since he killed Otis (even though I could see myself possibly doing the same) but when the time came, I was very sad to see him go. It's been a long time since I watched anything that has made me like and even care for the characters as much as the characters in TWD. Even the characters I don't like, I like lol. It's been a long time since I've been hooked on a TV show. And of course zombie killin' and Daryl and his TG don't hurt it either :D

Anyways if I got bit, I'd kinda like to see what it's like to be a zombie even if it's only for a second. That being said if I ever turn into a zombie, I hope it's next to my sister's ex who stole a good chunk of my knife collection a few years back. I'd just enjoy ripping his guts out and feasting on his brains.

As for my favorite Busse zombie killer I'll go with this one (I don't have mine in hand yet so I used a stock photo. Don't know if that's against the rules but I just mainly wanted to share my reasons for loving the show so much)

1. I enjoy pretty much anything zombie related. So much in fact I have a recurring dream about zombies. No, it's not that I think they're real or anything, I'm pretty sure it has to do with killin' all those people I see on a daily basis that are only alive because it's illegal to kill 'em. If they're already dead, well, that's a completely different story.;)
2. Unfortunately, I can't tell what I'd do if I was about to turn as it definitely ain't family friendly!
3. And my preferred kin for zeds.

Gary,
Awesome give away bro. The criteria for winning that you have put in place should make for some interesting reading.

The Walking dead is one of the best shows well let me change that to one of the only shows I have gotten interested in sense Battle Star and The X-Files.To me it is not just a slash and kill show but really makes you think about the society we live in.Just look at the in depth discussions in a couple threads here.I have really enjoyed the progression of the characters from one personality to another. One of the best is how Daryl is going from a racist biker into a bit more of a moral stand up kind of man and much more of a leader. He does seem to be the one that will take Shanes place as number 2.Then you have Shane, starts out trying to do right but the anarchy of the situation changes him.
I have not read any of the comics and that is the main reason I have entered so I can have the chance to read some of them as I know I will not get around to buying any.

If I was to have gotten bit I think I would wait a while anyway to see if I might have a natural immunity(no virus kills 100%).The bite would have most likely been in the hand or arm.I would have my son or a co-worker with me so they would be the one I would want to put me down when the time came.If they did not and I turned I think I would go with the face to eat.At least that seems to be the preferred area in the real attacks lately.A second thought is the buttock as they say human tastes a lot like pork and I do like ham.

Now for the Zombie killer!

I am liking them already! I laughed, I cried... and there are only three entries so far!

Where to start? I had no exposure to TWD until the mid season break for season 2. Everyone at work was talking about it and when I saw season 1 on Netflix, I figured I would see what all the hype was about.

My wife hates anything scary. The first scene in episode 1 freaked her out so she went elsewhere. I ended up staying up until the wee hours watching the first 4 episodes. The next morning I finished that season. That was Friday. By Monday I was totally caught up and hooked. I watched the rest of the season when it was on...yelling at the tv a bit as you do. What is great is that after the first few episodes, my wife figured out that zombies were just the backdrop and she is hooked too. Is it wrong that I let my 3 year old daughter watch it?

I hated Shane from the start. Glen was my favorite character. Then we met Daryl. Hated him at first (like everyone did), then he became my hero! I started putting together a Daryl costume, trying to be as authentic as possible in hopes of getting to meet Norman at a con or something. I'm very close to grabbing the crossbow. After that I need the pants and boots and then I'm set gear-wise. I still need to grow my hair a bit longer, dye it and get it styled, and lose about 12-15 more lbs to do the character justice. Since several people have inquired about pics of my costume recently, here it is thus far...

I love the what if aspect of TWD. I was never really into zombies or survival. TWD started it all for me.

Were it not for TWD I would never have heard of Busse, probably never would have joined these forums and got to hang out with you fine people. I can honestly say that I bought a TG because of the show. Never dreamed I would pay that much for a knife. I sold all of my collectible knives...my Rambo knives and such. I now own only three blades. My Gerber edc that I got years ago, a RMD, and my TG.

The comic. I didn't have much of a desire to read them. I ended up getting the first issue for free on my iPad the week before the season finale. That's all it took. I downloaded the rest that were out at the time and read them all in a week. Lots of late nights! I'm all caught up and eagerly wondering WTH Lucille is!

I like both universes. I like different things about both. As much as I wanted Lori dead, I think Rick needs her. I'm not sure I like the direction of the comic very much and I hope some changes are made with certain plot points in the series.

One thing is certain... Daryl can play with the darkside a little here and there, but if he turns, I'm gonna be pissed!

So if I was bitten... My hope would be that I was with my wife and daughters. I would also hope that there were others with us. I would tell them goodbye, go off somewhere and kill myself. I couldn't bear the thought of hurting any of them and I wouldn't want to put them through the trauma of having to kill me. That may make me seem like a quitter but in a zombie apocalypse, a bite is game over. Turning is worse than death. That being said, I won't get bit because by the time that happens I will be sporting my Horton Scout, Team Gemini, and one bad pair of wings. That makes me invincible right?

Because my TG is out getting fitted for a Daryl style sheath and a CF finish, I'll have to use an older pic I took of it.

I don't really like the TV series. I started watching it on my last deployment. There weren't very many characters, none were very complex, and I didn't really identify with any of them.

I bought the 1st compendium of Amazon on a whim in November. I put off reading it for several months. I think I actually started in the beginning of June.
Since then, I've nearly caught up, and actually just ordered 97-100 (I've ordered the compendium, books, volumes, and am now down to individual comics).

I am ENTHRALLED with this series. I really like the constant rotation of characters. I'm constantly kept asking "who's he gonna kill next?"

The characters in the comic are so much more believable to me, so much more human than the show. The situations they end up fill me with a real sense of dread, and it's easy to forget I'm reading a comic. Never really happened with the show.

If I knew I was going to turn, I'd hope to be strong enough to go off by myself, and deal with it. Having read so much of the interactions between the recently bitten and everybody else, I'm sure if I waited to turn I'd end up biting 6 or 7 people I care about.

I'm a big fan of the walking dead. The social commentary and diversity of the characters drives the story more than a simple zombie flick. The group dynamics last season really brought the show to a higher level. With Dale trying to remain in a pre zombie mind frame of law and order and most of the rest realizing that circumstances would not support that view. I was sad to see his character go. Daryl is by far my favorite character in the show, his self reliance and mental toughness is great to watch. Personally I can't wait to see Lori die, she is the worst parent ever. What the heck keep an eye on your kid, quit letting the brat wonder off. Tie him to a tree if you have to. That and I think Shane would have been an asset without her in the mix to keep egging him on and then turning around to try to get Rick to kill him. Tough for a friendship to withstand the attack of a slut.

If I had just fought off a zombie attack and found I was bitten. Well I would say good bye to wife and kids and eat a bullet. Simple solution to a complex situation. But necessary to protect the group and family.

Of course my tglb is my current favorite for zombies up close

Lori is at the top of my shit list atm. I used to sympathize with her in season 1 but over the course of season 2 she really pissed me off. Like you said she can't watch her kid and whether intentional or not, she is the main reason for Shane's downward spiral. I was so annoyed in the ep when she voices her concern about Shane being dangerous to Rick (she was practically telling Rick to get rid of him) and then when Rick tells her he killed Shane, she acts shocked and angry!

Like I said I was rooting for Shane's death but now that he's gone, I'm gonna miss him in season 3. It would have been interesting to see how he would've handled the threat of The Governor and the people of Woodbury, though Rick at the end of season 2 seemed to really toughen up a bit. I was glad to see him go off on the group abit.

I was sad to see Dale go so early in the series (I know he lasts quite a bit longer in the comics). I thought it was interesting that he was the only person still trying to hold onto the moral ideals before the SHTF. He was basically the humanity of the group. It will be interesting to see how the group's morality evolves or devolves in season 3 since Rick seems to be going a little nuts himself now(which is great).

First off I want to say thanks for the chance and this is an awesome contest!!!

I am a huge fan of TWD! I try and keep up with the series and I'm currently reading issue #95 of the comic. The t.v show does a fairly decent job following the story in the comic. Between the two I would have to say I favor the comic simply because it goes deeper into what is going with the various characters/groups. My favorite character hands down is Rick.

The reason he is my favorite is because I think he gives a fairly accurate look into how an upstanding average person tries to wrap his head around and survive the zombie apocalypse. Ricks internal struggle between right and wrong and the laws he once enforced slowly become grey when it comes to keeping his family and the group alive. Eventually right and wrong and everything he believed kind of fades to black. It kind of made me pause and think zombies aside, what if a real cataclysmic event happened. How far is one prepared to go to keep his/her family alive. Because as the story unfolds with Rick, often times the zombies are secondary to surviving the living. Kind of makes one think...

I've never felt bad for a comic book character until I began reading TWD. There have been times when I have been reading and my jaw has hit the floor. I’ve had to pause and think, "you've got to be kidding me". I've never seen a man go through so much and try to keep it together mentally and physically while pushing forward. All Rick wants to do is find safety for his family, but just when things look to be going his way it all collapses around him. If I put myself in his shoes I would wonder when enough is enough? How much could I take mentally and physically before I broke or curled up in a ball and started drooling.

One of the biggest things for Rick is trust. Who do you trust when the world/society has broken down? That's a hard one. Can he trust the members of the group? Can he trust people he encounters as the group travels? Can Rick trust himself?

Outside of Ricks plot you have the subplots of the group and so on. I think the story isn't too far off the mark showing how savage people could become to survive. With no law and order or anyone to put the psychos in check people will do what they want, and oh yeah zombies want to eat you. On the flipside of that there is hope, compassion and members of the group who are truely hoping for the best and pulling their weight.

My favorite quote is when Rick addresses the group and says "We are the walking dead". To me that kind of sums it all up. They're just bidding their time until they're either a walker, or buried, life will never be the same.

If I got bit, I would just have to end it...Thats after I had a little fun, like biting my wife for all those years of giving me grief, biting the kids for not listening. Biting my dog for peeing in the house. Biting the mailman for leaving packages where he shouldn't, things like that :D After that I would have to end it, a 45 to the skull would work.

One of many zombie stickers:D

I heard about the Walking Dead a couple issues in. I thought it was great, and I couldn't put it down. Every month, each issue dragged on here and there, but then went out with a bang. The campsite, the housing development, the farm, the prison. It was interesting to see different characters come and go. Some were over the top, like Michonne and the Governor, others were like people you probably know. Something I always liked about the series was that these were real, down to Earth people, who just have to cope with the end of the world. I cancelled my subscription to it at my local comic shop, and a couple years back, bought a marked copy of the telephone book sized collection. I was not prepared for the end, and haven't picked up an issue since. Not a bad comic, just never got around to picking up another issue. I don't have cable, so I have to wait for the DVD collections, or watch an episode at someone's house. The tv show has some subtle, and not so subtle, differences from the comic, which makes the show a lot more interesting. Robert Kirkman, the creator, said with the comic, he didn't know when the bottom was going to fall out. The tv show is the story he originally wanted to tell. I can't wait until Season 3 starts. Even though they're over the top, I really want to see Michonne and the governor on the small screen.

If I was bitten by a zombie, it would probably be in a buffet line. Fat, I mean fate, and all that :D.

The Busse kin I would carry would have to be the Battle Rat. The Camp Tramp might be better in tight spaces, but I would still prefer the Battle Rat.

Dropped to page 4  bumping it... less than 10 entries with the last one 5 days ago, so if there's no more interest I may draw as early as Friday if no one objects.

I NEVER thought I would get excited about a zombie series, but "live and learn"!..:D As someone interested in preparedness and survival, I like to watch the actions and interactions among the cast; what they do right and what they do wrong. I think one of the reasons my wife enjoys watching the series is that she gets a kick out of me watching and critiquing the cast, such as not picking up all the militaty "hardware" they have come across, or not checking out sporting good stores and such. Although Lori is a real PIA, removing her would make the series seem more like the movie "The Road", with the father and son trying to survive. Season three should really be interesting with the introduction of new characters and the original cast melding into the Governor's group.
If I was bitten, I believe that I would approach everyone who pissed me off and bite them!:D Then look out, because I have one HELL of an appetite!;)

The Bussekin blade I would carry would most likely be my Pregnant Dodo Bird; technically extinct but risen to raise Hell again, like the zombies!:D

100_1712.jpg

This knife was MADE to slash and stab zombies!!!:thumbup: A good secondary blade would be my Scrapizashi.;)

I love the series for the “what if” factor. I was re-watching S1: Ep4 the other day when something really struck me. It was the scene where Jim was tied to the tree after being confronted digging the graves and he started to talk about his past saying the only reason he got away was because the dead was too busy eating his family. Being a husband/father myself, I immediately started thinking about what I would do in that situation and how terrible it would be having to live with that or how I would react. Then I remembered some real life instances that made me feel the same way as I watched the news or read in the newspaper: I heard/read the story of Scott and Janet Willis once, (in summary) an illegally licensed driver hit the family who was traveling with their six kids and the vehicle burst into flames. The parents were able to get out while their kids burnt inside. Their 13yo son exited the vehicle on fire before passing. http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=4541369
I mean, that is totally unavoidable despite your training or expertise. I also specifically thought of the Petit family robbery/murders… where the wife/mother, daughters were assaulted and killed before the home being set on fire, with the husband/father alone being able to escape and survive. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheshire,_Connecticut,_home_invasion_murders
I can’t imagine the grief and confusion these people must feel and I can’t say I would react very well to either instance. I’m sure there are numerous real life incidents like this that have occurred but these are the ones that stuck out in my mind as I watched that scene. That grief would be enough, but accompanied with the end of the world and constant chaos, it’s almost un-imaginable. It is survival at it's upmost, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

2) I, for some reason, get pain in my right shoulder/neck meat area when I think about getting bit. I’ll be honest, I’m no expert as far as how fast pathogens/virus can travel in the blood but depending on the severity of the bite, my first thought would be to immediately burn the area to hopefully kill the virus with heat or dump a ton of alcohol in there, ha. I would likely wander off into seclusion/hiding until it either took hold or passed (providing alcohol/fire worked). If I turned?...I’d have to have some ribs.

3) Dang, I need to buy a Gladius. While I’m waiting on the KD Hawk the Ratmandu would have to do:

Walking Dead. I only got two seasons in before we dropped cable like a hot potato, 100 plus bucks a month I do NOT miss spending. I really liked the series, The first season I loved, the second was good but not as exciting. Watching the characters grow and sometimes digress was the best part, some shine some just fall on their faces over and over again and still manage not to get bit, dangit. :p

Got bit after a good killin session eh? well first I'd have to break out that fifth of Jack I found in one little town a while back and drink every drop, hopefully either poisoning the virus or myself, either way is much better than becoming a drooling brain seeker. ;)

Favorite tools of the trade: Coppincuttin, Swamp Rat RattleHawk and Rat Mastiff.

Backup: American Kensai and Rat Waki, a bit more range.

Last day to enter! I'll choose a winner tonight, so get your entries in. Good ones so far so I know this will be hard to choose

To keep in the spirit, I'll share my zombie-killing Busse as well, a NMFBM variant. Photo courtesy of Dwayne:

And if I ever got bit by a zombie... I want to write something funny for this thread. I also want to imagine myself doing something heroic and selfless. But, realistically, I think I'd just want to be with my loved ones somewhere safe until I'm gone. Then when I turn, the cheeks. I hear they're quite tender.

No thoughts on the show yet as I can't seem to form a coherent thought right now :foot:

I was originally skeptical about The Walking Dead due to so many people liking it. Its usually been my experience that something that can appease the masses is usually watered down, politically correct and/or doesn't take an IQ of 85 to understand. I am glad I was wrong...

This is going to sound horrible, but seeing the opening scene on the very first episode did it for me. You know the scene where Rick head-shots that little girl by the abandoned traffic jam? I came off the chair yelling "WTF!!??". I mean seriously, in a zombie apocalypse, women, children and grandparents are going to die, there is no avoiding that. I appreciate that this point is alive in well in every episode. Walkers are not politically correct!!

And then there is the suspension of disbelief. Because the show is not all action with massive body count makes the situation that much more believable. When you are watching all the drama between the characters play out, it feels like the real deal in everyday life. That whole drama vibe makes the walker attacks extra scary and delivers a sense of dread not normally felt in horror films.

If I were bit, I would gather up all the explosives I could hold on my body and arm them with 3 triggers. One trigger for me, one trigger for someone in the group and a timer. I would basically head for the hotspot making as much noise as possible, gathering as many walkers around me as I could. When the time is right, I pull my trigger and take them with me to hell. Should I fall and basically lose the ability to pull the trigger and my group is close, they can pull theirs. Should I wonder around for too long and find no walkers to destroy or I start to change before I can gather them up, the timer goes off and my pain is over. The last thing anyone needs is one more walker to contend with.

For Busse zombie killing, you have to go with the Gladius. Two edges and heavy enough to chop; it will keep you alive longer than anything else. Given the thick blade, the cuts will open wide enough so the blade doesn't get stuck too easily in walkers. You can windmill the thing Conan style if ever backed into a corner. Should the blade dull, it will still break zombies open like a wedge. The Gladius will continue to serve others long after I'm dead.

Below is the Gladius and everything else a zombie killers needs: a paintball Mushroomhead zombie killing mask, a Kriss Vector and a Shake Weight. Even zombie killers need to keep those biceps from going flat.

DON'T HATE THE WEIGHT!
