As much time as I spend outdoors accompanied by my dog I had a "first" last weekend. We were hiking an old fire access road off of a gravel road not too many miles from town. About a half mile in the pup started squealing loud. I ran over expecting him to be stuck in a briar patch. My heart raced when I realized he was caught in a steel trap. After a minute or two of him biting me, my son crying, and my wife screaming I had him free. To say I was angry would be an understatement. When I got home I got online to check state regulations before calling anyone. Turns out the trap set was legal other than not having a tag identifying the owner. It's hard for me to understand how it can be legal to set a trap that close to an area that is easily accessible. The trap was less than 10 ft off of the old road. It's a location we frequently walk. The dog is okay but my wife is still furious. I've calmed down now and looking back I'm glad we didn't run into the guy on our way out or things may have gone different.
