The Whittling Starter Kit GAW II — Winner Chosen — See Post #44

I'm in, I believe I qualify...

I would like to get into actual whittling. I've often pretended to whittle just to escape anxious social situations. There have been many a strange baseball bat made from random sticks and my modern folder.

Generally though, my hobbies revolve around the music world. Playing music, and recording music. There's a lot of joy being a lifelong student of the drums, growing older but never actually feeling like I'm good enough.

Cheers, and thanks for the generous GAW!

Edit: I didn't include a photo of my hobby...so I'll toss one in for kicks. :)

Count me in! Warmwater fly fishing and fly tying are two of my big hobbies. I especially like to carve my own topwater flies from cork and balsa.

Thank you, Greg. I have played around with whittlin' here and there but would like to give that book a read and learn some proper techniques.
My main hobby, other than knives, is cycling. Hereis a bike I restored a couples weeks ago.

Thanks for the entities and kind words, everyone. I am enjoying reading about the pastimes of our porchmates.

I am absolutely 100% in on this. I used to whittle when I was a kid and have been meaning to get back to it recently but never have. I have waaaay too many hobbies right now, from working on cars, making knives, re-handling wore out traditionals to hiking, fishing etc. Im often going full bore day in and day out and have thought about taking some time to sloooooow down. Taking up whittling again would be a wonderful way to do just that! Thanks for the chance!

Matt

At an earlier point I would have been in for this, but I'm too busy for another hobby!! So another post just saying how great this one is! Cheers to you, WA!

Not an entry as I've benefitted from your generosity before.
That's a beautiful knife , one that I've always wanted and one that I'm sure someone will cherish for years to come.

Thank you for the generosity and I can't wait to see who wins.

Awesome giveaway!
I sometimes like to whittle, but have no real knowledge on the matter and just sit down and carve away until I do or don't end up with something ( usually don't ) and only cutting in ways that feel safe to me.

One of my favorite things to do is sit in my backyard and plink away with my 1979 Sheridan blue streak / w Williams 5dsh peep sight. Ol' Blue is such a tack driver and never fails to hit where I'm aiming, having such a nice light and crisp 3lb trigger doesn't hurt either.
I've got various other multi pump airguns as well as Daisy bb guns that I love to shoot, but Ol' Blue is king.

I don't often enter GAWs here, but I'd like a shot- looks like a cool pack of stuff.. I especially want to check out the book.. I've only whittled on sticks, so the blocks of wood would be cool too! killer knife taboot!

accumulating old stuff is my main hobby, I also like getting out and looking for Indian artifacts - mostly low grade lithics in my area, but I get lucky every now and then

Great GAW, Greg!
Not an entry, because I have most of the stuff you're giving away, except the book. ;)
Is that Mr. Chips' book?
Another thing that would be cool to include in the "package" would be some time in a bottle! :D
I like reading about everyone's hobbies, too.

If I get the time (and don't fall asleep), I enjoy reading mystery/suspense/thriller novels.

Good luck to all the entrants :D, and thanks again for the generous GAW, Greg.

Excellent GAW Greg! Not an entry as I won your gorgeous Camillus 51 Barlow which continues to be my best quality traditional knife! I do plan on trying to whittle, but I believe that I have what I need in some vintage Barlows and a full size Imperial Stockman.

That's a very fine set to be giving away, knife, material, book, safety of that glove, good of you to do yet another one!

I'm in, while I have a knife that I can do some whittling with, that one looks like a keeper in and of itself. And a word about carving on a small round piece of wood like the opinel knife handles, it is treacherous work as the blade can quickly slip off the side and into something you might not want to open, such as a finger ;)

As for hobbies, our grand kids have been one that's taken over our lives, as far enough to get us to move closer, which we are working at a move in the coming weeks!

Two grandsons, they're a little older now than these photos show, but the oldest one has a growing collection of knives already !

Thanks again and good luck to all !

Not an entry for me (seeing as I won the first Whittling Starter Kit GAW :D) but good luck everyone!

I'm in! I haven't whittled since I was a kid. Thanks for the GAW.

Besides knife collecting I also like firearms and motorcycling.

I'm in!

One of my favorite pastimes is backpacking with my dad. I've got some great memories out on the trail, setting up/tearing down camp, starting our campfires, cooking, and just enjoying the great outdoors!

Someday I hope to be in a position to pass those type of memories on to my own children. I better hurry up though, my oldest is already 11

Please include me. I have a grandson who needs to whittle, but he needs his grandpa to show him how to do something more than a toothpick, which means that grandpa has to be able to whittle more than a toothpick.
