The Wonderous Wharncliffe

Jake: I bought it along with some other Sheffield made knives including some I*XL's, but I'd be guessing on maker. The quality is very good though. Charles

My current favorite, the mini copperhead, which I enhanced the dye of the deep canyon chestnut bone to match its brother the peanut.

Just realized I never did post a pic of my Peanut in this thread:

How do you like that AG Russel peanut? It caught my eye recently

It's a terrific knife, and my favorite Peanut...but don't tell the others, they'll get jealous :D
Seriously, it is a terrific slicer and tough too. I was cutting fairly thick wire ties with it a couple weeks back, more of a job for a pair of diagonal pliers than a knife, but the Peanut went right through them.

Those unmarked knives are kind of fun... rare and mysterious. It's certainly a beautiful knife... though I'm still partial to that ebony Holley. ;)

I was going to ask if this was a Tiny Trapper or a Mini, but once quoted the image tag gives it away-- Tiny. Very nice!

Meantime, your use of "coupla" ranks right up there with moonwilson's (and others'-- can't find the owl-avatared post I'm also thinking of) use of "few". ;)

Great selection.

I bet that Northfield is spectacular in person!! Thanks for taking the time to share all these beauties with us. Its greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what just happened...

... or if it even counts as "traditional"...?

Either way, it'd definitely a wharncliffe!

Hi ~P.!

I think, that counts... acrylic handle and a guitar shield. Looks traditional to me... nice wharnie, btw.

Kind regards
Andi

Sooooo, I was headed home early from work yesterday when I found myself detoured by unexpected road work. All roads lead to Rome, so I decided to take a swing by a little hardware store that's nearby.

Fulkerson's is anachronistic, to say the least. It's been sitting at the corner of Rice and Somis Road since about, oh, 19aught-forever.

It's the kind of place where you have to walk carefully down the aisles, mostly sideways, lest you knock stuff over.

But if you need it, I bet they have one. Bob Fulkerson is a no-nonsense kinda proprietor, but very helpful. He refers to a lot of the customers as "dusters".

Guilty as charged. I could spend hours in there, "dusting"

It was a warm day in Somis, and I felt drawn to knocking the dust off a couple of CASE Seahorse Whittlers. Bob was happy to oblige, they've obviously been in the case for a bit.

A CASE BROTHERS in Chestnut and one in Jade....

Take a little detour once in a while, don't mind the dust.... :D

Nice pick up, and thanks for the link to the article. I grew up in a small town in Indiana, and James Hardware looked just about the same when I was there back in May as it did when I used to go in as a kid 40+ years ago and stare at the pocket knife display cases. Wish there were more places like this still operating.

I need a coupla more wharncliffe's too ~P :D

I really like the Tango acrylics, and yours is the first I've seen of the #26 pattern. The guitar shield gets me every time even though I'm a better drummer than a guitarist.

Any hardware store that has a wash tub in the front window is my kind of place. Were I there, I too would be a "duster".

[wonderful thing, Google street view]
