"The World of Art Knives" - Finishing touches....

Yes, I Feel this is the best ever Art Knife Book to date....As David continues to create one Great book production after another, his skill at doing so increases and the world as a whole is the benefactor....We Knife Makers and Collectors should create some kind of an award for David's contribution to our Art and Craft....I can not think of one single individual that has done so much and received so little recognition in our field....Please let us all consider this matter. Get this ball rolling and let us see where it will stop. Edmund.

Thanks, Edmund my friend. You are too kind...

I do what I do out of a burning passion that I have inside me
and I can do what I am doing for the world of modern custom knives
because of a rare combination of circumstances:

• A love for MODERN CUSTOM KNIVES rooted in me for over 50 years.

• Deep technical knowledge in photography and digital image creating.

• A great amount of TIME and PATIENCE to create and display this
amazing art form through exhibition quality, laboriously created,
full color composite illustrations.

• The excitement of leaving no stone unturned regarding the persuit
for in-depth information about each knife and the artist behind it and
then bringing it to the readers in my books.

• A serious scientific background of many years that helps me put
all this together with the added value of an un-inhibited imagination...

And I do what I am doing not to get any awards or prizes, it is
because I LOVE WHAT I AM DOING and, regretfully, there is yet
no one out there who will pick up the glove and join in to document
this art form properly - no matter how big a publisher/producer
they may be.

I feel like I am "CUSTOM MAKING" books, a one-man-workshop,
and also feel very very lucky to be able to do this!!

As for Recognition -

• I have the testimony of literally hundreds of new collectors from
around the world introduced to this art through my books.

• There is the fact that knives displayed in my books are greatly sought
after by dealers and collectors. This is something I did not foresee when
I began walking this path.

• And there are many hundreds of new and true friendships that I have made
among knifemakers, dealers and collectors. To these and many other friends
I owe the strength to go on doing what I am doing.... THANKS!!

All this warms my heart, same as the sincere thoughts and words,
like those posted above from you, Edmund Davidson...

Thanks and all the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Yeah, really the outpouring of gratitude for your books is that they allow us all to enjoy knives that most of us would never even know existed. So thank you, David, for giving us a window into the worlds these great knives inhabit.

Thx,

Matt

#1. I believe that the kind of work that David is doing generates recognition with every passing year. In the coming decades, the significance of his impact on custom cutlery will be apparent. Provided books still exist:rolleyes:

#2. I also believe that the rewards with doing his work are intrinsic with the work itself, and that David pursues his passion for these intrinsic rewards.

#3. Furthermore, a little pat on the back by way of a formalized recognition never hurts, and it would behoove an organization- such as the CKCA- to provide this symbolic public recognition at a public event, such as Blade or somesuch.

Here are the two opening pages from an 8 page section in the introduction
which, as I expected from the writer :) makes great reading...

All the best,

Fortunately I'm near-sighted so I can read those real tiny letters:D;) Looks like a very interesting article indeed. Nice knives too:cool:

Nice JD Smith blades!

I'm sure that it will be a great book. If I finally get to see STeven's knife collection, it will be worth the price.

STeven,

I know that the entire collection won't be in the book. I'll bet that the 12 knives shown will all be among your best.

Thanks for the invite.

Jim
