"THE WORLD OF ART KNIVES" Vol. III & IV are printed!!

Thank you both, Jim, Steven as well as Ron my friends, for taking
the time to look through my latest book, and it seems to enjoy what I did too!

And Steven, you were so right by understanding that this time I went with an idea
not knowing where exactly it will take me, and got with it to amazing places.

This allowed me to display many aspects related to custom knifemaking that
were hardly ever even mentioned in the print.

In my 12th volume, "The World of art knives" Vol. IV (2016), I took this path even further
with quite a few custom knife related items never before displayed in a similar way...

What I miss is hearing from other makers featured in the book like Ron Appleton above (thanks Ron!)....
As I am sure they too liked what I did in the book with their Knife Art*...

--------
* I am still so touched by Jim and Steven's reports that I
am "fishing" to hear some more.... :)

All the best!

As with most of his books, Dr. Darom has brought to life the soul of both the Artisans and the pieces of Art that they produce.
Sharp and concise photography, cutting edge technology and dialogue make this book a must have!

I hope that you all go out and get my friend Davids Books, they are a legacy that can be handed down to generations.

I agree with Dave - these books are becoming a staple and a much awaited (yearly) happening both for us makers to see what our peers are working on as well as for the collector/those w general curiosity. You can do too much in promoting of our art in this rather small business and Im glad someone is to this extent.

I myself is currently working with David on some of my knives that will be featured in his coming volume and can only say Im eager, eager, eager to get my hands on the book once its out! :)

Thank you David for spending so much time and effort on immortalizing the art of the knife.

Over and out from Anders Högström...currently building a new workshop and longing to get working on knives again

I received my copy of David’s The World of Art Knives III several weeks ago and have been slowly taking it in, kind of savoring it so to speak. First off, David has resolved the distribution issues he had with his last book as I knew he would. I received both my copy and the copy David donated to the CKCA two days after placing my order.
As far as the book, another winner! It’s pretty amazing how after eleven custom knife books David still manages to capture and hold even the more seasoned enthusiasts interest. The World of Art Knives III is a nice combination of information and beautiful functional art images. David does an excellent job of covering a broad spectrum of Art knives and those who create them. I enjoyed the book cover to cover as I did the first two. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in collectable knives and/or art objects in general. Thank you David, as your books help bring custom knives to those who may not experience them otherwise.

For those who still do not have the book, I thought it would be nice
to share here a page from Konstantin Pushkarev's (Russia) section
where he displays his beautiful silver-wire inlays in knife handles...

In my next book, Vol. IV (2016), I shall have him displaying in detail
the whole process of creating one of his amazing inlayed knife handles...

All the best,

I truly do not know if I can put into words my feelings when I opened the book to my section.
From looking at the low resolution images that we exchanged as the book was being written, I was afraid that the knives would not fit in to this elegant book that is a work of art in its self. I have always said that throwing knives are the red head step children of the custom knife industry because of their simplicity. David has really taken these simple tools and elevated them into functional art. Thank you David and Coop for making my red head stepchildren feel like family.
As always you have another masterpiece of a book and it will fit nicely into my collection along with the rest of your books. I think I only lack one and I need to find it to complete my set. Thanks again for including me in this great work of art.

Hi Bobby,

I see art in shape, design as well as very much in original
superior functional design... So what were you worried about?

To me it seemed very natural, an honor and a great pleasure
to display your knife art and your exciting story in my book...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Thank you Steven. Your friendship is appreciated. We have missed seeing you at the AKI and hope you make it this year.

David, Thank you for including me in the THE WORLD OF ART KNIVES" Vol. III . I am very honored to be included with this great group of makers. The many hours you spent on creating this high quality book is appreciated.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested in knives. It is a beautiful piece of art. I purchased copies for each of my children. While sharing pictures from the book with our youngest grandson, who is four, he told his Dad that he wanted me to make him a good knife. He followed up with the fact that I am getting old. The honesty of a child.
David, you have really been a champion for custom knives.

Thank you C Gray!

Playing with your amazing multi-bladed folders when creating the illustrations
for your section was a truly exciting even, though they were just the digital images...

Through this keyboard/screen adventure I could recreate the feeling of actually
handling more than one of your knife creations at the San Diego AKI® Knife Shows...

Here, to display your amazing knife art for those who do not yet have the book
is one page from your section.

Thanks and all the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Thank you, David, for including my work.....AGAIN! You are too kind.
Interesting, this: It's not everything one can recommend, with no holding back, but your books...all of them...are guaranteed to please.
I have never heard a negative comment about any of your books and this one will be an excellent addition to any knife lover's library.
Besides the top quality, color, photos, commentary, we ought to take note of the purely historical aspect of the whole series. Makers,
techniques, markets, shows, all are documented in one way, or the other. The makers, collectors, casual observer are truly blessed as
a result of your monumental efforts. Thank you!

In the mid-2000s, I bought the first 4 books of Dr. David Darom! I was stunned! I just looked at the awesome knives and admired this beauty! I swear,I even did not thought that some day I will meet David, and my work will interest him! But it's time we met and David suggested me to show to his new book of my work. I couldn't believe! And happily agreed! Unfortunately,I very badly know English language, and David,I think, had to be a certain restraint in dealing with me! As said, my colleagues in Russia--to be in this book--it's like a monument in his lifetime!!!:)))
But the book had just been published. And David is already working on my topic for his next book! Truly,David shows boundless patience and skill! Holding in the hands of the publication, where among the great masters from all over the world has a section devoted to Russian artists,I once again convinced-no Internet will never replace big, beautiful, perfectly published book! I am grateful to David for cooperation, for friendship, for all his hard and necessary for modern society work! Just want to Express my great gratitude to the blacksmith to Kevin Casey for your understanding and cooperation!!!!!

You are such a true gentleman Steve and an amazing knife maker!
I love the hours I spend working opposite you every time we get an idea
for a section on your knife-art in one of my books.

Here are pages from 2 sections in this book displaying your knife-art...

Thank you my friend!

Knives with your amazing inlaid handles make beautiful displays
in my recent books!

I am also very glad you agreed to photograph the whole process of inlaying
a wooden handle with silver wire and carved Mother-of-Pearl elements
for a knife by Kevin Casey... a process to be displayed in detail my next book.

Here is one picture from this long and complex process....

own them, as they surely would like to have a copy....

One of my favorite sections in this book is the story of husband & wife
art knife makers, Van Barnett and Dellana.

Earlier, in post #38, there are two more pages from this section, displaying
Van Barnett's recent Steampunk "Time Machine" knife creations...
Here are two pages of Dellana's exquisite creations...

They look much better in the book, and like every other knife of the
hundreds displayed there, they are also described in great detail....

Hi David,

Thanks for all the great work you did on your latest art knife book, and for the huge honor including me in it!

I have a number of your books, including this latest work, and I've found lots of inspiration in them. It was such a pleasant surprise when you asked me to participate in your latest, The World of Art Knives, Vol III. A very great honor! I was even more pleased when I received my copy, and got to see the spectacular 4 page spread you created with my artistic efforts! Thanks so much David!

Hello my friends!

Barry, do you still remember that amazing Fighter you and Steve Johnson made for me?
That "David's Fighter" that I treasure so dearly and is knife-art perfection all the way....

And Tom, it was a real pleasure working with you for the book! Thanks!!

All the best,
