The Worlds Most Dangerous Trail

 ... !!!

The most surprising thing to me was that there were actually a few spots that had guard rails! :D That thing is a deathtrap, and the construction of the trail looks super sketchy at best. What was it...cheap concrete slabs over open ironwork frames?! :barf:

The trail was built over a hundred years ago to provide a service route between two dams. They obviously have not maintained it and people die there walking the trail.

Anyone who hikes that trail is a Darwin award waiting to happen. Just because there are a few "guard rails" does NOT mean that thing is passable. Anyone who hears about that trail, tries it, and dies, deserves what they get.

I'm in complete agreement. This is another example of "thinning the herd".

Even though the trail is 100 years old...it still looks like a sketchy arrangement. OSHA and their European equivalents didn't exist back then. :D

Good to see that even without any predators to keep us in check we still have our own built-in methods of natural selection.

That’s Just Crazy.

I too have seen that video before, and my heart races just watching it.

It may have been a marvel when it was built, but it looks like a death-trap to me in it’s current state.

Made my hands tingle just watching it.

I would do it if I was being chased by a legion of Sasquatch or similar, so I guess I won't be hitting that trail.:p

Seriously though I wonder what access to the bottom is like. I could see a base jumper getting a big old :D out of that, not me though.

No big deal... That trail is called EL CAMINITO DEL REY and it is located in Malaga, Spain (El Chorro Valley to be precise). I have a close friend (climber as well) who is now living in Sevilla (kinda close) and has been climbing there a few times. That trail is usually used by climbers to acces the climbing spots. There are also a few belaying stances right on that trail since some of the routes start well below. Walking on it is forbidden and the acces points have been dismanteled to prevent non-climbers from accesing the trail.

Not long ago another forumite sent me an email asking for some more info about it since he had a friend who was going to come to Spain. I gave him a bit more info about it. I will just copy and paste some of the links I sent him (may need to use a translator if you are not familiar with spanish). Here you have them:

The second video posted is the old version of the Via Ferrata routes. A lot safer if you ask me given that you are always on belay via a shock absorver and two K rated auto locking carabiners.

I honestly don't think it would be too bad if you clip into the cables bolted into the rock alongside the trail as the other climbers are doing in the video. However, the guy doing the filming obviously wasn't clipping in, and was also diverting his attention from the task at hand by videotaping. Not too smart, even if you're extremely sure-footed. Distraction is extremely dangerous in ANY situation where a mistake or slip could cost your life.

That video was posted up here a while ago and it never ceases to amaze me! I suppose that would make sense for climbers to use it since they are on a safety harness.

Looked like a helmet cam, so his hands were probably free. Sketchy, but not really that insane. Obviously plenty of people do it.

I couldn't agree more with you. Safety first.

True as well. Seems like a helmet cam to me.

Its mind over matter............... But in my case i would lose my mind as soon as i would look down... After that it wont matter... I would just pee in my pants sit down and wont move no more with a death grip on the what ever i can get a hold on. Just to think someone actualy build it in the first place.

It may be me but it looks like the aspect of the film has been narrowed a bit to make seem even more perilous.
