This is one of the finest khukuris I've ever seen in my life -- period. It is true to Yvsa's wood model about 98%, I'd say. Made and marked by Sanu and little wonder Sanu got the $100 excellence bonus. This kid is coming on strong and is presenting a challenge to Bura for best kami at BirGorkha. He did a wonderful job with this!

Specs: 17 & 1/4 inches overall counting the thick star keeper, about 5/16 thick, and 2 & 3/8 wide. Maybe not so surpising is the weight is only 1 pound 6 ounces due to the deep double fullers. The fit is about as perfect as you could ask for and the finish is impeccable magic stone mirror. Notice silver bolster, buttcap and keeper all to Yvsa's specs. Sanu has the edge hardened up to 60 Rc. What an excellent khukuri. Some kami might make one as good but he will not make one any better!

The two kardas are equal in quality. Chiruwa style, and faithful to the models. Excellent fit, finish and same hardness as the big blade. Equal companions.

The awl is equally well done but I did not put a file on it to test the hardness but I suspect it is the same hardness as the blades. Excellently done.

As you can probably see the inlays are per model and very well done. The sword of Shiva is exactly as Yvsa specified with alternating copper and brass.

See what they can do with a good model to work from.

Since it was not me who made this rig I can blow Sanu's horn and not feel embarrassed about it. The entire set is absolutely wonderful.

The scabbard was made and tooled (dragon below frog and sun and moon at top) by the sarki with no name and he was up to the task. Notice silver chape. He worked the three tool configuration into the rig quite nicely and everything fits well.

Yvsa, if you are not pleased with this one I'll eat khukuri, kardas, awl and make soup from the scabbard.

If anybody is interested in an Yvsa Special now is the time to get signed on. The price for this jewel will be $250 delivered to your door and take it from old Uncle Bill this is a bargain and a best buy.

Bro, this one if flying to Catoosa today via priority mail. Be prepared to be astounded.

If I wasn't a poor college student I would have to be first on the list. But I need to get a GRS first and a katana. Uncle Bill, do you think I could have Sanu make me a GRS? I may have to sell one of my guitars, or get a job-I don't think either one of those is going to happen.

Holy Cow! Stunning execution of a fantastic design.
Uncle Bill, could you refresh my memory as to what the light and dark inlays are made of?

:
%$^%$#@$ Damn this slow loading!!!
And I still haven't seen the top pic after reloading twice.
frown.gif

I will get it though one way or another!!!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL Bro!!!!!!!!
And Of Course IT Will Be Tested and then brought in and restored to its original beauty.

Used? I haven't decided yet.
Sometimes I get to thinking that something this beautiful should be used. It is like a .45 Cal that had been worked on by a very famous gunsmith and the original owner had never shot it.
The man that aquired the piece struggled over whether to fire it and finally decided that it was made to use, but not abuse. He took that .45 and went to firing range where he shot unbelieveable groups. And to think the original owner never realized the inhierent beauty in its function as well as the beauty of operation and fit and finish.

To be continued......

My only concern is I hope Sanu didn't overdo it on the hardness. You know that old file of mine, Bro, well it told me it was 60Rc or BETTER! I just hope he didn't push it too far above 60! Outside of that, something I can't determine, I have no worry at all.

The knife is on the way to the mailing service and will fly tonight.

I got a couple of takers already. I think this design many be a winner.

I didn't make myself clear before, Bill--it was actually the inlays on the wood handles I was wondering about, not the ones on the side of the blade. Can you tell me what they're made of?

:
Bro, I will be careful with it!!!! Absolutely No Chopping while Twisting!! That technique puts more torqe on an edge than any other and can chip out a very hard and/or thin edge.

You know that I have a thousand and one questions I would like to ask, but I will wait however impatiently.

And in my excitment I forgot my manners again.

Thanks guys for all the wonderful comments about my design!!!

After I get this one paid for then on down the line we will try to get a cheaper model made with a hammer dingy finish in the fullers and steel furniture for a Real Using model if this one handles well and I am betting it does!!!
I know my Bro had to at least swing it around his head a few times.

Ad I am still experienceing slow and incompete loading, but I think part of today's problem is with my WebTV as I have sent myself mail and it hasn't came back yet. It's usually instantly!!
