The ZT0770 has withstood the course of time and is still an EDC stalwart. I'm not sure that any reasonable person would dispute that, but I think the question is whether or not the price tag of this incredible EDC has been scaring people away. When you really think about it, the Benchmade Osborne is also in this same category, but the price tag of these 2 knives have probably caused most people to choose inferior EDC knives.

Kershaw makes lot cheaper clones of the 0770 and you have good choice of handle finishes and steels.
‘The mentioned Osborne is really a great knife, I just never liked it, it is very subjective.

I'm sorta with you on the Osborne, but I really wish I had the 770. I know, I'm not a big assisted opening guy either, but I like to have a couple in my EDC collection. 😁

I'll dispute it - I don't care for assisted knives; so the 0770 is not EDC material for me (and for many years, I considered it too small, as well).
I mean, we could debate it, but I just think that price aside, the 0770 is one of the best. I don't have one, but I have handled one before, so I know it when I see it! My EDC right now is the Spyderco Para 3 SPY27 steel.

Deassisted the 0770 shines. Mine flips beautifully and has a perfect detent. One of my favorites.

So your position is that a knife you haven't owned is "an EDC stalwart". And you're willing to debate its merits with somebody that owns one & doesn't care for it. Could be interesting; but I'll pass. I'll even acknowledge that it's a decent knife...I kept meaning to de-assist mine; but I never got around to it. (Thought I'd sold it until I came across it in a box while getting rid of some stuff over the winter)

I like the design of the 0770, but that’s it. I hate assisted knives, slick handles, and liner locks. I’ll take the Manix 2 or PM2 all day, every day.

As much as I like the ZT0770, IMO, the Kershaw Bareknuckle is a better choice.

I've got the ZT 0770CF in both Elmax and M390 plus its cousin the Kershaw Natrtix (7007). I'd love to own the ZT 0770's "big brother" -- the ZT 0777 -- too but the current asking/sale prices for the 0777 at over $1k is just too rich for my blood.

The design of the 0770 (and Kershaw 7007) is excellent for an EDC (light weight/thin profile) but I wouldn't call it a "stalwart" of the ZT line.

"Stalwart" is something that would be described as "having rugged physical strength; inured to fatigue or hardships." The 0770 doesn't seem to quite meet this definition. I'd give that "honor" to something more like the 0200 or 0300 instead.

However, the 0770 is still a very nice knife nonetheless. :)

I never said it was a stalwart of the ZT line, I just said it was a stalwart of EDC knives. If I was looking for something that is so tough that it's indestructible as an EDC then I'd go with a Cold Steel AD-10, but who wants to carry that beast every day?

Generally I love Benchmade and any Griptilian-like Axis configuration. My personal thing with the Osborn model is that the grip for itself is too small for my hands and i don’t like at all the tip of the long, skinny blade. I’m sure it is a great knife, I just don’t like it…
And when you mentioned it, I really like AO… To me any symple system that eliminates human element worth to have it. I kno lots of people don’t like it and most of them think that they are faster and better than the mechanics, but this is illusion. More power to them tho, I know what I want because I had a real life chances to compare it, everything else isn’t very important to me…:thumbsup:

Opinions vary.

Ok but just thinking of them as knives for EDC carry, I still think that the 0200, 0300, 0560, 0620 or 0909 would be better described as "stalwart" EDCs.

LOL! ;)

I mean the ZT0562CF Hinderer slicer is probably the best production knife in the world today, but I'm not paying $300+ for it...at least not right now.

😂 Yes my friend, opinions are just that - opinions. And yes, opinions vary, you’re absolutely correct on this.
