There is still that "Thing" that bugs me about Sage & others..

ME TOO! I really appreciate the way you opened your thought--its not about quality. For me, its about deeper philosophical, economic and political concerns about the very fast paced shift to a truly global world. The shift has happened, as if inevitable. The very "inevitability" of it all is part of my problem with it. I still get to have a miniscule say in the matter in how I comparison shop. Products made in US get a big bump from that geographic fact alone. Products made in other countries that share US values about labor, democracy and the environment get a slightly smaller "bonus." Products made in China, because that country's only shared value is profit, get a massive minus in the product comparison calculus. For me, even products of similar quality are not created equal.

+1 Thank you. My thoughts are exactly the same, almost the same. Today products made in People's Republic of China in my book are getting so massive minus, that preventing me from buying any knives made there.
I am working in manufacturing for bigger part of my life and I am well aware about all difficulties and risks involving expansion of production facility. Still we need to make Spyderco aware that there are people who are proud to own US made Spydercos and willing to support this with their wallets. I understand that now is not the best time for Spyderco to expand their Golden facility, but may be this can happen in close future.

Hi Bh49,

We appreciate your postion and comments. I should let you know that we are always expanding the capacity of our Golden facility and will continue to do so. It's not a timing thing. We buy new equipment and train new people at a constant rate.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your reply. This was very nice to hear. I am, like all of us appreciate your effort and desire to satisfy our Spyderco needs. Cannot wait for new Native4. :)
Thank you,
Roman

Would it bother you if it were made in Switzerland?, Germany?, Africa?, how about Antarctica?

It is just a location where it was made. Many countries can be credited with making wonderful things...and complete turds. Celebrate the idea that your knife was made well...very well.

I understand your feelings though. Count me in as one who would pay a few dollars extra to have an identical knife with identical attention paid to details created in the country country of my preference.

There's something you don't see everyday..."Made in Antarctica"

:D

I got a PPT today and it's one of the best made knives I've ever owned, fit and finish borders on custom quality. I'm not sure if it's the same maker as the Sage but if Taiwan is producing this kind of quality I'm happy to see it stamped on the blade.

I would buy Spydercos even if they were made in Zimbabwe, as long as the fit and materials was up to standard.

I understand that the Chinese made models are the BUDGET bottom of range models, but can still appreciate the decent fit and finish.

Truth be told, as a "global consumer", the made in the USA stamp is no big deal. I do understand the old school guys who are sticking to their guns on this. I'm not such a youngster myself, and I have a dad too :)

I just love the Spydercos. Where they are made does not seam like such a big deal to me.

All I can say is that my specialized mountain bike can take some abuse, and like most good bikes it is made in taiwan. So, I guess that I would be a hypocrite to preach about not buying taiwanese stuff. Oh well, life's short- lets just buy more knives. I think this thread is probably beat.
