There will be a Muk!!

It's actually a very nice shape for trimming and cutting raw meats, chicken, etc. The large meat knives used by butchers have a curved end, and smaller "boning" knives generally see a lot of use on the small curved tip.

This is what I will use it alot for. The family does alot with meat (butchering cows, deer etc) so it would work well enough and I can thin the edge out if needed. I use the bird dog for that now and its been good so far. I have dedicated meat knives for this work but I love having new toys to play with while doing it.

If you don't like it, don't get one, AI. The Nessmuk style isn't everyone's cup of tea. I would say that the curved blade will skin and maybe chop vegetables better than some other designs, but if I didn't like the look of it, I would not spend $100 on it.

I know Horn Dog.... I want it cause it is SY. I am sure I would enjoy holding it, but I hate to see spending over a hundred bucks on a kitchen knife that will not out slice a $5 victornox. In a pinch I could use the Muck to pry a drawer open, or lift the fridge off of one of my children :D, but I can not figure out how else to use it.

I know people say it is a camp tool that can be used to split wood and stuff...I just like a bigger blade for that sort of stuff.

Come on Horn Dog...convince me I need one. :)

All contempary Busses are to my knowledge made of INFI and nothing less. You must mean 'Busse Family', as in a Swamp Rat 154cm;) There is a great distinction made between INFI and all other steels; so as to not mislead anyone new to the Family the point needs to be made.

Contemporary, yes, but don't forget that Jerry made his combat blades out of ATS-34 (virtually same recipe as 154CM) for years before finally settling on INFI.

Another perspective may be marketing strategy??? If the ScrapMuk sells well, maybe an INFImuk will sell well. I'm gonna use my wallet to lobby for the INFImuk.:D right or wrong, I end up with a zero-maintenance Nessmuk, something virtually unheard of before now.

Also, considering Busse Combat focuses on combat knives, a hunting/camping knife may be betyter offered through the sister company??? ;)

As to a 154CM Nessmuk, in 3/16 with mudder grips, there are a few purist issues to deal with, but nothing you can't rationalize since it is a knife designed for Scrap/Swamp repeat customers. Really it should be carbon steel, no thicker than 5/32, with wood handles. I'm sure Wausseon's got 5160 lying around, and maybe even some good burl wood... but with that paradigm you're starting to get away from the customer base. And a "purist" Nessmuk knife would be better bought from any of several custom makers whose work Jerry is considerate enough to not infringe on.

Finally, couldn't Ban put a nicer handle on a ScrapMuk? All is not lost, merely a bit more expensive... :D

The Scrap Muk means there probably won't be an INFI Muk coming while it's there, I think. So I wonder what is coming next? SAR 4, maybe? Or something in the HACK series (hopefully)? :D

Despite the nostalgia I've never really understood the advantage of a hump-back Nessmuk blade design. It does look like a fine skinning/processing blade and I very much like the coil-less design.

That being said, I have a couple stainless steel victorinox skinners that will do the job equally well for about $12 so I won't be buying one unless they are around the $50 mark. For that price I'll buy one just for sh!ts and grins...

Edit... Looks like the price is $100 bucks... I'm out...

JBirch, It's my understanding that ATS34 is the finer grained Japanese version of 154cm, correct me if this is not true. Also, stainless would be a good choice in steel for a knife that's inclined towards butchering game, what with the acid of blood and it's effect on steel. I know, lots of carbon steel like Ol' Hickory doing the job for eons; guess it's just a bit more upscale to do it in SS for the Yard'. Too pricey for me as others remarked, I don't need that large a knife butchering small game. I prefer choil-less designs also, so that's what I actually like about this style. Hence my interest in a Mini MUK in INFI for smaller game cleaning chores. I'll save for that, and maybe it'll come to pass. I like seeing the designs spread around amongst the Busse Family though, and not all the best only in INFI, fair is fair, not everyone can afford the INFI. I can't help but keep thinking that the SR knife that just came out in 154cm looked a bit SAR4 to me, is it my imagination or anyone else see this resemblance?
