There's A Knack To It!

Not sure. It's at my dads house. I just sent him a message about it. I'll see if I can get a pic as well.

Nice one Mike, don't worry if it's a lot of trouble though

Yeah, the ball or pin slips in and out of that cutout to hold it shut or not.

I'm tracking now. I was thinking that, then for some reason convinced myself that the ball would be on the wrong side of the tang to roll into that notch. Good thing for me there's not an IQ test to sign up for these forums.

Thanks for your patience and explanation.

Well explained Jack ... its easy to do when you know how ! Here is my version with advertising. Made by Paul A Henckels, Solingen. The blade has been shortened.

That is genius! What type of knife is this? It's like a puzzle knife in a since. My brother likes puzzles and would thoroughly enjoy on.

Cool!

Thanks for posting - very nice knife, and now I'll know how to operate one if I come across one while perusing the flea markets and garage sales.

best

Which actually may have been well thought out. Sometimes you have to close it point up and then rotate point down to keep it closed since the pin (in my case) is on the wrong side of the notch otherwise.

I would have opened a beer with it. :o

Me too. And probably busted it.

Like many others, I sure wish I could see it in action, so to speak, to better appreciate its mechanism.

Jack, you turn up the most interesting things. Thanks for sharing this and so much else.

Thanks Michael, I have ADEE to thank for this one :)

I have one of those knives sitting in a wood box at home. I gotta get that thing out and look at it again. See if it's the same make

So I went to a few antique stores today just to kill some time and maybe find something interesting. Look what I found...I

Not the greatest of photos but it has a Sheffield stamp. No maker though. I was very happy to find this thing today. I even got to mess with the proprietor with it. It was closed when I asked her to get it from the case. I was carrying my son and asked her to open it for me. The face she had was great. Then I showed her the mechanism and was pretty amazed with it. Had a nice talk with her. Apparently her husband is an SAK enthusiast. All in all a great find for only a few bucks!

Google "color changing pocket knife"

   :D

So that's the knife you give to a non-knife person when they ask if they can borrow your blade. :D

:D

Around here in Australia, give a non knife person a SLIPJOINT, and they will have a hard time opening it!

:D

Wow, that's fantastic, great tale, what a coincidence!

Seen those before. Had a guy hand me one once and said I could have it if I could open it. I did. He was speechless at first. I didn't keep his knife as he got enjoyment out of watching people try to figure it out. The look on his face was priceless.

That's what I do to everybody that sees it :D

Mine looks like a Providence Imperial, with fake mop shell handles, but is stamped with no name and two patent numbers: 2170535/ 2170537. (Pin rather than ball.)
