I've read somewhere that they made a large number of them for the Navy during WWI... ebay seems like a good place to find them.

I've got a couple of the large ones.. this one is in nicer shape than the one I posted earlier.. doesn't appear to have been resharpened and still has the bail

the blade on my small one has been modified into a wharncliff - but I'll get a correct one whenever I have the chance

I have not been around in a long time, but I had to stop back by and post a shot of this one Glenn just reworked for me. It was a cheap stamped steel shell knife that he turned into a real beauty with smooth ivory bone. Thanks again Glenn - I love what you do to my old knives!

Nice to see you around Doug! Lovely re-work on that knife. Would like to see more of it down the road.

Peter

Thank you Peter. I posted two more pictures of it over in the modified production knives thread. Take a look here.

Very nice!

You need to drop by more often if you are going to show us such nice stuff! :D

Check out my last batch of bareheaded jacks, got some mammoth ivory and stabilized wood burls on the scales:

I just took another picture after discussing with Will the excellencies of barehead jacks. Four barehead beauties, together.

I love seeing that red stag. I'm not a huge fan of stag, but I get sappy every time I see yours.

Michael

Jeff, those are mighty, mighty fine! I really love both of the stags. The primitive bone really stands out... and the mammoth ivory: WOW!

Thank you Michael and Al, I think all four of them are pretty special, but the Red Stag #72 just might be the best looking GEC I've ever seen.

YMMV, of course.

That Redstag's a prize for sure.

Here's another Barehead in Green Bone but it's been driving me to drink as you can see...:D

The pull is horrendous, I'm not exaggerating I think it could dock your finger from half-stop Trying to tame it with leaving it 'ajar' Handle with care....
