These knives good for 1st EDC knife?

Get that Delica. I picked up a FFG Delica and it is an awesome all around knife. Great slicer, can take a beating, and the steel is very good. It'll hold an edge very well and sharpens up easy.

Get the delica, it was my first and 20 years later I still love it. I would also consider the Ontario Rat 2, great value for the money. If this is your first EDC, you will not be able to tell the difference in the steels

I would also choose the delica for myself, but my advice would be try to find a local store that had both so you can see which feels better in your hand and pocket (most of the large chain outdoor stores should cattery both models)

Good idea, I do know a store with quite lots of selections of knives around the LA area. But I don't think I want to go there just to try the knives, and leave afterwards.

id have to say, go with an opinel. cheap, amazing, and boy do they take a beating! they have em in all shapes and sizes along with different wood and a choice of stainless or carbon steel

I have been doing some more research, now I am considering the Spyderco Manix 2 as well... Way too many choices.

Yeah get a full flat ground delica! OR a Paramilitary 2, it's worth more than the $100 it costs. Either of those will spoil you for life.

I think I might end up either the Spyderco manix 2 g-10 s30v, or the native 5 frn s35vn. Been looking up way too much for my first knife...

The Native is pretty nice too. I don't think I'd even put Spyderco and Buck in the same league. Just my $.02 though.
I'd go with any Spyderco you really like, no wrong choices there.

Oh are you in LA? I just moved here and don't know where to go yet for good in-store stock. You aren't allowed to post stores that are not supporters of this site, but could you send me a message/email?

Delica

I have a ton of more expensive knives and my delica still gets pocket time.

Great knife and spyderco is an excellent company

Edit: If the Manix is in the mix it's also a great knife.

Wow. The overwhelming majority of people here are recommending the Delica. I am kind of more towards to the Buck Vantage Pro... tough choices.

Most of the people in General are Spyderco fanatics (AKA "fans") who think a blade by virtually any other company is garbage. Get the one that fits your needs and budget. Of those you listed, I'd go with the Buck, simply because I've never gotten a lemon from Buck, and they have one of the best - if not the best warranty in the business.

Technically I think the best warranty is ESEE. They replaced a knife someone intentionally shot to test ballistics

I'll bet Buck has never been put in the position to do that, so who's to say they wouldn't as well... But wasn't that BUSSE not ESEE?
