They can't steal it if they can't find it - the coolest safe in the world

Frankly, I would've figured out a way to hide the gun safe into the walls, floor, or ceiling. Being obscenely greedy, I'd want the reinforced safe, AND have it hidden too;). Unless that cabinet is made of tougher stuff than just wood, anyone who realizes what it is can break into it with a hammer or crowbar. I can't imagine someone cracking a gun safe without making a HUGE racket. They're also generally bolted down and even without that, would be too heavy to carry with all the crap inside(could even weigh it down some to make it harder).

anyone who realizes what it is...

Put some books on it, and it's a bookshelf. Sure, if the FBI is searching your house, they'll find the guns. To the average (and even above average) burglar, it's a bookshelf and nothing more.
Great job! It's smart and the workmanship looks superb!

That is really well though out and executed. Some friends of my folks got broken into a few years back and despite the fact they had a gun safe they didn't bolt the thing down and the thieves trucked the whole thing away to work on.

Wow - I am truly thrown back by the amount of positive feedback I have received. You guys must be sharing this with your friends, because my little video has had 3000 views in 1 day. I really did not expect this level of response. Thank you so much - it is truly amazing.

Did you engineer the system yourself? Well done!
Hi Brown Dog - Yes, I designed this myself.

Could it possibly be incorporated into a wall unit on hidden casters so you could slide it away from the wall.
Yep - nice ideas

I'm impressed. That is very cool. How long did it take you to build that?
Hi Sufler - This took about 3 weeks to build. Much of that was problem solving. Turning an idea into a sketch, into a measured drawing, and into a finished piece is one thing, working with hinges, slides, and locking mechanisms in ways for which they were not designed is something else. But now that I have the kinks worked out, subsequent models should go easier for me.

One problem I'm seeing...

You gave away your secret.
Shhhhh - I trust you not to share it :)

What do you think would happen if someone ransacked your house and just being destructive knocked it over? I saw where you said it can be locked, and imagine you do not want to test that scenario out, just curious what you think would happen. Like a gun safe, you could anchor it, and anchor it hidden style since you are apparently good at that. It would suck though if someone broke in to vandalize and stumbled across your safe. Three weeks is not bad, I am no expert woodworker, but know that design and execution is not an easy thing.

Thanks for the comment.
I recommend securing any bookcase or tall furniture to the wall to prevent tipping over. A simple "L" bracket will accomplish this.

Working on a new video - I will put up an update soon.
Thank you all so much for your great feedback so far!

Absolutely awesome^10!

I have always wanted to modify my antique consol bar to include hidden storage, but being I'm the third generation to own it, I will not touch it. I would love to see a consol table or consol bar with some secret storage options. Most every place I have lived I always installed in-wall secret secure storage for small items, maybe enough for two pistols and documents or jewelry, but I would like larger storage.

This is really cool. If I could afford it, I'd have you make all my furniture with trap doors and snazzy hidden compartments. As it is, you probably have more in that one piece than all the Ikea/hand-me-down crap I've got in my entire house! Maybe one day! Nice job, really nice!!
