I have some 5160 steel available to trade if anyone is interested and is close enough to work out an exchange without having to ship. I will be attending the Knifemakers Guild Show in Louisville Ky on 9/21 and arrangements could be made to meet there as well. If you are still reading then you are either just curious or meet the above criteria so here is what I have:
I have two pieces of 5160 that are 0.6xx" thick (over 1/2") by 4" wide. One piece is 11" long and the other is 13.25" long. They have a really cool coloration right now, I guess as a result of the heat and rolling from the mill.
The other size I have available is .329" thick by 2.5" wide by 10"-11" long. I have 5 pieces but two have notches cut from them. I have plans for those two.
They are the pieces grouped together with 329 written on them.
I am not at a point where I forge yet but can certainly use this on my own making hatchets and jutte. However I could use some 1084 steel 1" - 1.5" wide and .125" -.156" thick. Or I would consider some 52100 in the same size range. Also there are plenty of tools and such that I need. Hardened file guide, adjustable center scribe, 12"+ long angle lathe file, 10"+ Magicut file, burner for a 2b forge, ... Like I said I need most things so if you are in need of thick 5160 let me know what you got.
