Thin EDC?

The Kershaw Chive has a blade that's just a hair under the 2 inch length that you are looking for. That's one to take a look at.

+1
Great little knives! I’ve had mine for about 3 years now, I edc it for about a year and a half when I first got it and it still finds its way into my pocket anytime I want something small and discreet. Small, thin, and still feels good in your hand.

I was thinking about getting a Flatbyrd. It is supposed to be the flattest of the byrd knives. Anyone with experience with this knife?

So all of these posts sound good, and I do wish that I could afford all of them to save myself the hassle of choosing. But sadly I spent all of my money on a solid gold airplane, so alas one knife it is.

What it gets down to is that I just moved temporarily to sunny/peaceful/constantly entertaining San Francisco and feel I deserve a treat for my time here.

So again, I am liking all of these posts, but when I clip a knife into my front jean pocket whether it be large or small I seems I never can comfortably access the bottom of the pocket. The knife is jamming into my wrist, or thigh, and maybe I need bigger jeans but what I would give for a knife that can fit in my front right jean pocket unnoticed but easily accessible.

So discreet aside, because apparently concealed is a no-no here, what knife feels like a pillow when it sits clipped in the front right pocket?

Benchmade blades are a little too long, and the Al-mar too wide. Both nice though.
Fixed blades aren't really accepted around here, so a nice folder will be better suited to the city.
The Kershaw is nice, but for some odd reason my experiences with Kershaw haven't been the best. Not to say I won't consider them, but they have never really "grabbed" me.

Thank you again for the posts, I'll be on the lookout for more and definitely spend some more time researching some of the suggestions so far.

Also, are there any handles that are short and comfortable - to keep the size of the folder when closed small?

Benchmade Benchmite?
Very small, very thin, locks both open and closed. :-)
Handle too uncomfortable for hard use. :-(

Benchmade Benchmite II
This with a good solid locking blade
Under 2"
I find it very comfortable and bigger (3 finger grip) than other small bladed knives

The AG Russell featherlite might be a good choice. The blade is 3 inches but at $49 for ATS-34 steel blade is a lot of knife for the money.

I have to second the blade-tech mouse, either s30v version would be great, and NGK has them for some of the best prices I have seen anywhere!
Spyderco has 2 good ones, the co-pilot, and the dragonfly

PS I think the lava may not be the best choice. I love spydercos, but the handle is really big compared to the blade that it doesn't really come across as small.

Two suggestions.

1. Spyderco Spin PE
2. Spyderco Cricket SE

I have carried both, and they both work well in the pocket. The Cricket is a little longer blade, but is a little on the intimidating side with the recurved edge. The Spin is my current key chain hangin' knife. That way, my keys are always accessible at the top of my pocket with my knife. :)

I add one more vote for the Blade-tech mouse. I've got one and it's thin, light, and cuts very well for a small blade. Get the G10 or CF version IMO.

Also, are there any handles that are short and comfortable - to keep the size of the folder when closed small?

Of the two I carry, the Buck "Colleague" and the Spyderco "Ladybug", I actually find the Buck a tad more comfortable in the hand. But the Ladybug is not uncomfortable.

Open length of the Buck (handle + blade) = 4.625"
Open length of the Spyderco = 4.375

You made a comment about knives getting in the way in the front pocket. I find the same thing and now I always carry clipped to the rear, or in the case of these, I just slip them in. They sit at the bottom and I never notice them.

Fixed blades aren't really accepted around here, so a nice folder will be better suited to the city.
Really??
Does SF have some funky knife laws???
I know they tried to ban ALL gun sales in SF
SF never gets any of my tourist dollars these days
I'd rather go to an A's game anyways
What kind of retards try to ban gun sales??

Well, poked around for a while. Thought hard about buying one, ended up buying two. Byrd Robin with a G-10 handle and a Victorinox Bantum Alox.

What I came to realize was that I was looking for the smallest knife with the best blade-handle ratio that was not too small for a keychain but not too big to "feel" in the pocket.

As it stands, the Byrd Robin holds well in the hand and the pocket. Super sharp out of the box, feels good for the wallet also. Thank you for all the suggestions, it's about time for me to make a few more purchases for the holidays.

The etched Dragonfly's excellent. W/clip in watch pocket or w/o clip loose in the back it's hard to beat.

My first vote would go to the native but after measuring it is more like three inches. If you aren't too picky about blade steel CRKT KISS line has some nice offerings that are thin and easily pocketable. Another thin knife that I have is a kabar wharthog folder, kind of a weird looking knife but very nice for the price.
