Greetings everyone,
I'm not actually new here, just forgot my login name. Been a few years.
My current EDC is Benchmade Perdue 531. Below are some specs:
Blade Length: 3.25" (8.26cm)
Handle Thickness: 0.37" (9.40mm)
Weight: 1.88oz. (53.30g)
What I'm looking for is a similar knife but with a 3.5"-4" blade. I'm most interested in is handle thickness to be as close to 0.4" as possible.
In my search I've found that knives with similar handle specs usually have sub 3.5" blades.
I would really appreciate any suggestions if anyone came across knives similar to Benchmade Perdue 531 but w/a longer blade.
Thanks
Mike

Cold Steel American Lawman has a very thin handle, and is a bargain with the upgraded steel.

Mercator K55 if you need a lock. Higonokami if you don't, both have handles thinner than your 531.

I thought the Cold steel Hold Out II was pretty thin for a 4" bladed knife when I handled it, though I don't have one to measure--you might want to give that one a look.

The Pardue 531 is awesome. I've packed one myself a time or two.

If I were to carry something "similar" (light, well constructed, etc.) I'd carry an Al Mar Eagle Ultralight.

I'd do the Talon blade, but they also have a very slicey FFG if that's what you like.

Don't let the blade steel scare you. Al Mar does it up right.

Thin light knives? For longer blades the Al Mar ultralights. For a shorter blade of amazing steel Spyderco Air.

Nobody likes my cheap options, but here are there stats (thieved from knifecenter):

$30 Basic black cat Mercator K55:

Blade Length: 3.5"
Closed Length: 4.25"
Overall Length: 7.75"
Blade Material: Stainless Steel
Blade Thickness: 0.09"
Blade Style: Drop Point
Blade Finish: Satin
Handle Material: Black Stainless Steel
Handle Thickness: 0.24"
Locking Mechanism: Lockback
Weight: 2.9 oz.
Made in Solingen, Germany

$16 Higonokami-type knife:

Specifications
Blade Length: 3.5"
Handle Length: 4.75"
Overall Length: 8.5"
Blade Steel: Triple Layered SK Steel
Blade Thickness: 0.10"
Handle Material: Stainless Steel
Handle Thickness: 0.26"
Weight: 2 oz.
Made in Japan

These knives are very thin, very light, and meet the lower end of your length requirement.

I'm most interested in is handle thickness to be as close to 0.4" as possible.

He isn't asking for the thinnest possible, but as close to a specified measurement as possible.

Mike:
I hope this yields some more accurate responses for you. I will be doing some digging of my own and repost back if/when I get some answers.

Al Mar Eagle Ultralight, maybe even the Ultralight HD (Heavy Duty). ZT 0452CF feels lighter than it is. Otherwise, it's hard to get 3.5"-4" blade length in that light (or light-feeling) of a package.

Boker Urban Trapper.
Stock Ti slab version is listed below, but they are available with CF, Cocobolo, and a few other options which might bump the width up a bit.
Overall Length:7.75"
Blade Length:3.50"
Blade Thickness:0.10"
Blade Material:VG-10
Blade Style:Clip Point
Blade Grind:Hollow
Finish:Polish
Edge Type:Plain
Handle Length:4.25"
Handle Thickness:0.32"
Handle Material:Titanium
---------
Carbon Fiber version listed below:
Overall Length:7.75"
Blade Length:3.50"
Blade Thickness:0.10"
Blade Material:VG-10
Blade Style:Clip Point
Blade Grind:Hollow
Finish:Satin
Edge Type:Plain
Handle Length:4.25"
Handle Thickness:0.39"
Handle Material:Carbon Fiber

How wide is the Military?
I haven't been able to find a measurement for the width of the handle.

You didn't list your budget Mike. Give us a hint what you'd like to spend......we won't tell your wife!!
If you're looking for the quality you're used to with your 531, great knife, definitely look into the Al Mar offerings.
The Boker is a decent knife, but not on par with your BM. I had the UT and although it's a nice looker, it just feels dainty. It didn't feel solid at all. I guess it's more of a light duty gentleman's folder. I gave mine away.
I would also agree with the ZT 452!! I have the CF version and it is a fantastic knife!! It carries very light and feels amazing in hand.
Good luck with your search and let us know what you decide on.
Joe

al mar eagle is a great light weight blade, also delica and endura's 3's are super light weight.

NJBillK, well done.

Boker Urban Trapper is a titanium framelock flipper with bearing pivot and VG-10 steel.

You could get a Trapper Grand with a 3.8 inch blade and still have a very light, thin piece.

They also made a sprint run with s35vn blade steel and G10 slabs.

The older, steel-handled, lock-back Sypydercos are very slim. See if an Endura or Police model works for you.

I didn't realize the 0.11" difference between his 531 and the higo I listed was that big a deal. I mean, I guess it is a tenth of an inch and all. Not sure why you're so agitated about it, though. More suggestions are more suggestions, after all.
