Thin, Light EDC

I understand that, but the way that I was looking at it is if he wanted thinner than, he would have stated that. I can suggest a DPx Heat, but it is wider with a shorter blade, but hey, it is an option right?

With the Vast array of knives available, there should be quite a bit to pick from that are close to his specified dimensions without muddying the waters too much.

I would like to think that he appreciates the input and the multitude of options available to him, but I cannot speak definitively for him.

As far as my being agitated; I don't know where you got that from, as I didn't state anything that could be construed as a personal affront, or standoffish. I simply highlighted what the OP said in his initial post for emphasis.
- Would you prefer I use italics or underline it next time? This way we can avoid the kerfuffle.

If That means I am agitated, then I feel that you should take a breather, since you have been reading way too much, and I had no agitation in mind. I only offered a reiteration of one of his criteria that weren't being met as accurately as possible when there is apparently enough out there to "pool the masses".

I have a Benchmade 531 in my pocket right now and have been very happy with it. I wonder if the OP is unhappy with his and, if so, why? Maybe he will enlighten us a little.

I also would suggest the Al Mar.

Don't know the exact meaaurements, but I think OP would be content with:

Al Mar Eagle
Boker Plus Patriot (0.43")(3.4" blade)
Cold Steel Hold Out II (0.46")(4" blade)
Ontario Dozier Arrow (0.42")(3.6"blade)
Cold Steel Broken Skull (0.36")(4" blade)

and all those are lightweight, not as the 531 but really light for their size

Boker Exskelibur I. Great slicer, thin, and relatively light, especially the CF version.

The Delica might be a Really nice option with plenty of blade steels to choose from, but the blade is under 3".

The endura or stretch are a bit closer to his preferred blade length.

You might want to take a look at the WE 618. At the widest part of the handle, it's 0.5" thick, but it tapers to much less than that at the top and bottom. The handle being very straight keeps the knife very slim in hand and pocket. Nearly 4" of M390 steel in a 3 ounce package is very slim and light! It's very Urban Trapper'ish with much much better materials and fit and finish.

In reference to the American Lawman recommendations, I would not recommend it. It has a 3.25" blade, but only 2.75" cutting edge. That in a 4.75" handle. There is so much blade size wasted in the finger choil and pivot. Yes it is a good knife with good materials but the useful cutting length is so small for its size it just sits in my knife box.

Another consideration might be the Code 4 if you don't mind the slippery aluminum handles.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I now have a lot of knives to sort through.
To answer some of you:
I'm very happy with the 531. It's my favorite knife but just wanted a longer blade.
My budget is around $200 or so.
I'll definitely share with you all what knife I'll settle on.
Mike

Thin, light, and long. Look at the Cold Steel Broken Skull and the Spyderco Endura.
Those two prove you don t need to spend 200 dollars these days to get high quality knives
comparable to the quality of the 531 in a larger size.
I have all three but prefer the larger edc s.

A couple Ken Onion designs by Kershaw would meet all these specs.

Also look into the Boker Kwaiken and Kizer Splinter.

Nice, slim, light and affordable

I actually finally picked up a 531 myself, been on my list for a while and I must say I love it. Even more then my urban trapper.
I wear basketball shorts a lot in the summer, and the 531 will replace the bulkier/heavier vantage pro as my go2 knife in mesh shorts because it is so thin and lightweight.

I know, not much help at all, I just wanted to chime in.

The 530 and CRKT Eros are knives so thin and light that I've played basketball with them in the pocket of thin cotton athletic shorts and never noticed they were there. They're my go-to workout/run/bike/sports knives.

Thanks again for all your helpful posts. I decided on Al Mar 1005UBK2T Eagle UltraLight - 4" Talon Blade. It was exactly what I was looking for.

That should be a great knife

If you come across a deal, pick up a spyderco military. Those things can take a major beating for what they are and very light for the size. Easy to use with gloves on as well.

Got the Al Mar knife. Love it. Light and a nice with an comely yet utilitarian blade. I also like the fact it opens with ease but not so as it would be considered a "gravity knife", here in NYC.
My 531 could be defined as such by the local gens d'armes.
I'd love to post a pic but I don't see an easy wat to do it.
Thanks again everyone
