I've seen several threads about problems and issues that people are just upset about, so, that made me upset to see so many people upset, it's contagious sometimes :) so I wondered just how big an issue is it and one way to judge that is having a poll.

These are not all my issues, lord knows I have many, but just from things that I've seen recently. You will be able to select multiples, so it is not limited to one choice.

Warning to keep it civil, best to just cover the main problem and not personal problems and keep it clean, so it stays visible and not moved from here.

I voted. Some of the above things bother me more than others.

Another one for me is when the seller deletes all information from the thread right after the sale. I am not talking about the price, rather the description, pictures etc. After saying I will take it or agreeing on a price, I've learned to take a quick minute to download the pictures and copy the thread to a pdf before paying. (I do understand some sellers do that in multi-sales thread to make clear what is still available and what is not.)

Edit: Not being able to see who is on line and looking at your sale thread. I really liked this ability. My perception is that this capability was an unfortunate casualty when the forum switched server hosts a while back. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

No photos and little if any description of the sale items, is a definite pass for me. I you're too lazy to post photos, why should I have to email you for some. I'll post photos if it's not sold by today is a other lame tactic.

It's amazing how many members post, I'll take it in threads by new members without even seeing the item. Common sense is lacking here.

Dang Gary, it's like you read my mind...I voted for everything on the list but poor communication, packaging and F&F are at the top.

Thanks guys and yeah, this was sort of created having it as a 'what not to do' for new folks and even for some not so new folks, most of it boils down to common curtesy.

edited to say I can't seem to add additional things, must be a limit for a poll thingy

That's a pretty good list, G2. I don't really care who is looking at my thread, but the others are all things that have bothered me at one time or another.

Poor communication after the sale is the big one for me followed closely by no pictures of the actual item that is being sold. I am fairly new here but have certainly realized that communication is the key to any good sale. I always send buyers the tracking info and update them the day before the arrival date to make sure they will be around to sign for the package. After delivery, I make sure to touch base with the member and make sure they are satisfied with the purchase and always leave feedback at that time. When I am on the other side as the buyer many times it seems as if I am struggling to get information from the seller. Don't want to sound like I'm complaining as I have had many smooth transactions with great communication on both sides, but it certainly does happen.

My biggest grip is how new or used has become subjective. Just testing a knife on paper, cardboard, fruit or in the kitchen make it used. I have purchased a few knives claimed to be new that were clearly not new or even like new. Seems like the high demand for some knives have made this worse and almost accepted. It’s not unusual for a condition to not even be added into a sales thread. Or worse, the description says see pictures.

Just finished with my vote, boy Gary you hit most of my "pet peeves". Communication and Friends and family are on the top of the list for me.

Good guys, hopefully this will be a signpost for those looking to sell/trade on the forums.

As I say these are not all things that I have as my own pet peeves, but what we've all been seeing on and off time and time again.

and removing prices and or photos, for most of my time I haven't done that, but recently started to remove the price, mainly for the guy buying, but I don't see that it matters much, just when people will point out one sale thread and tell ANOTHER seller that hey you need to lower your price, that is far uncool to do so.

The one thing that bugs me about selling knives on BF is that it's the only place I have had an issue with super picky buyers.

I know we all have different expectations for a knife we buy, but when I provide pictures and descriptions of a knife and then get somebody asking me questions that sound like they are vetting the knife for a top secret security clearance I usually hope for other interested buyers so I can skip that person.

I'm pretty mellow about my knives and their condition. I actually like a knife that has been used, so I don't even notice some of the things some people do when looking at a knife. I'd rather just not deal with them because there is a good chance they'll get the knife and see some minor thing that I didn't notice and call out and then want a refund.

As a seller I try hard to have good communication, but often the buyer doesn't give the courtesy of saying they got the knife and are happy with it, even though I always ask when I send the tracking.

I hope so, G2. Another pet peeve to me is "LNIB".

Today I saw a post that read "LNIB sharpened by 'BlahBlahBlah on YouTube'"...

"Sharpened" means the piece is nothing "L" the "NIB" condition we're used to. Nothing like it at all.

LNIB now means "Used" in my book. I can't differentiate the levels of this description seller to seller.

I voted for quite a few, but not all. Sometimes I wish a comment could be made on sales threads, though I completely understand why it's prohibited.

Also want to add to the peeves "net to me" and "G&S add *insert whatever %age you want* to the asking price". Nowadays those folks are instantly ignored.

Very good list Gary , I pretty much voted for all but a couple didn't matter either way . When buying I expect good to excellent packaging I would think good pictures and a price to be the gold standard to any sale thread . Feedback is important but I won't ask for it . Sometimes the longer you are in the game things you think that are just standard procedure to a newer member they may not be up to speed . I have had almost 100% satisfied experience as a knifemaker selling and as a collector buying and selling . Forums are safer than Facebook. FB is the Wild West sometimes . Enough of my ramblings.

Oh yeah!
Posting in my sale thread with anything other than "I'll take it" pisses me off.
Nothing more tedious than sorting through a bunch of useless crap in a multi-knife sale.
And there are a few others I voted for as well.

I was first to PM a seller on a multiple yesterday per his instruction. Six minutes ahead of the next guy. Two PM’s ignored.
Finally sent him one more message this morning and he got back to me. Oh, my bad I must’ve got the order of the PMs mixed up. How can it be confusing? Missed a grail because of it.

As a seller, I try to be concise, leaving no question on how to proceed if interested in my item. First time stamp in the thread or PM, gets it.
