Over the years this site has grown a LOT !
Many new people viewing the site daily, some joining in,
some just lurking, some taking the step forward to help
keep this site in operation by buying a membership,
be it a basic member or platinum.

When I get an inquiry from someone to buy something I've posted up,
I do check a few things, some obvious, some not so much;

Basic things like,

How long have they been a member?

How many posts have they made?
it's amazing some folks have been members for years and have made
less posts than years they've been on board, now, that's not a bad
thing, it's often better than just chiming in without good reason, so
that makes me think that person might take their time before posting,
giving some thought to their words, a good thing it could be.

Were their posts responses or did they initiate the posts?

Sometimes I'll do a quick view of their recent posting to get a feel for
the type of person they are, just a quick looksee.

And of course I look at their feedback that was left for them by others
that have either provided goods or purchased/traded goods with them.

In looking at that feedback, I also click and compare the number of feedbacks left
and also importantly, the number of feedbacks left for others...

I try to always post back when a sale's completed, just common courtesy,
and when I see someone that has a lot of feedback but doesn't return the favour to others,
well that kinda gives me a small view of them as well.

Other things to do is to also do a search on their forum name in the Good Bad and Ugly,
to see if they pop up in a negative way, or in a good way too.
And you can search by their name as well, as some will use that when posting
about them.

Just some thoughts that came to me today...some of you guys/gals may have
other things you also do before entering into a transaction that you might
like to share with us.

I hope everyone's transactions work out for the best to both parties involved
it's always nice to have a win win type situation!

Gary, some good solid advice and a real positive mindset to enter into transactions here.

Thanks Gary. I agree that feedback (in either direction) is a good thing. It allows people to see who the good guys (and bad guys) are at a glance. I've sold stuff to some members here and not even recieved so much as a "Thanks!". I used to always leave feedback, now only if it is returned. It seems like many people are just not aware of it or don't care. Most of the transactions on here have been really good.

Thanks guys, it's possible that I 'over' communicate, I try to also pack things
as I would like to receive them too, as neatly as I can, I think people appreciate
the little bit extra that I put into packing, usually I'll use some foam that I collect
from work from parts sent in, they'd throw away the foam but I am a pack rat and
have several people on the shop floor looking out for me and they save me the
foam when they can.

I was just in a melancholy mood I guess when I created this thread, but figured it
wouldn't hurt for new comers to possibly start off with some friendly ideas/habits when they
start buying or selling things on here.

Communication is key, everyone falls once in a while, as I tell my co-workers,
Don't let your learning curve turn into a circle...:)
