Think I'll just stick with this one for a spell

I haven't pulled the trigger on any GEC yet, cause most of the models seemed "big" to me. However, I haven't handled one in person either.

But the looks of that dogleg, that's sweet. That bone is purty too.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi,

Man, that's a beaut! I've really got to get one of these Jacks. The size is right where I like them.

How is the snap on yours? Typical GEC bear trap or have they lightened them a bit?

Dale

The main blade was almost a nail-breaker when I first got it. After lubing it, the snap is still strong, but reasonable. I'm expecting the pull to get a bit lighter yet with use.

I have a Teflon dry lube (Rock-n-Roll Gold) designed for bicycle chains that I have used on a couple of knives, including this one. The lubricant is designed to clean grit out of the chain as well as leave a dry lubricating film. So they cut the lubricant with hexane. (Hexane is reasonably similar to the liquid lighter fluid used in Zippos.) When lubing a chain you are supposed to flood it to clean out the grit, then wipe off the excess. I treated the springs and joint the same way. So this lube both cleaned out any residuum from manufacturing and left a Teflon film behind. It made quite a difference.

That is a NICE knife Frank!
I have never been a huge dogleg fan but this one just looks right and so practical. That blade angle and handle shape look like they will work perfectly in your hand.

Your pics are also excellent. May I ask you if you have the time could you please post a pic with something to make it easier to judge the overall size. Something like a US Quarter would be perfect......Thanks:)

Steven

When I first saw the angle, I wasn't sure if I would like it. When held it in my hand to use it I realized the angle was excellent.

I usually take pics outdoors to get a nice even light, but I took these tonight, so they were taken inside and the lighting is a bit odd. But the color of the scales shows well in these.

A Buck 301 and a Quarter for comparison. I figure most of us know the 3 7/8" 301.

I have small hands:

frank mine's on the way--thanks to your great pic. these in hand remind me of the great in hand feeling of the gec tooth.
dennis

That is an apt thought. They do remind me of that same fit.

Nice knife. I had my eye on that pattern since it came out. I still can't decide between the bone or ebony.

Dogleg jacks have always caught my eye, but I've never really pulled the trigger for one. After seeing this particularly curvaceous model, I think I'll have to really get one. 3 1/2 is an excellent size too.

Thanks so much for the additional pics:thumbup:........It looks like a perfect edc and I am definitely going to try and find one.

Merry Christmas and thanks again.........:)

Steven

I just ordered a Harness Jack, but I can see, this little feller will be next, for sure. :D

Great knife.Love the shape and the way its finished kinda round.Hope you had a Happy birthday too!

That is a perfect daily knife! I too have been thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these. The only thing stopping me is some issues where the secondary blade point sits above the handle. Does this look to be a problem on the latest versions?

Nice Knife Frank!
I saw that when you popped the photo in "what are you carrying" thread..and I thought...damn!..that knife is just a real beaut!
thanks for showing us.

I was blessed to have a GEC Northfield
Dogleg Jack in stag like these gifted to
me by a forum member and Great Friend!
The one I have doesn't have that problem at all!
It's my first GEC and it's wonderful!! The F/F on
it is perfect!! No problems what so ever.
Blades are 1095 and they are great, and
the stag is really nice looking!
I can speak for the Northfield, If I were you,
I'd pull the trigger!! IMHO

I'm guessing that you mean that when using the master blade to cut, you can feel the back of the secondary blade biting into your hand. I've had that happen with some knives, but not with this one. The secondary blade does sit a bit above the handle so you can get at the nail nick, but not a lot and I don't feel it at all when cutting with the master.

Here's a pic...

Thanks to this thread I just pulled the trigger today on a primative bone Northfield. This is the vendor's pic.

That's going to be a mighty fine pocket knife, I'm jealous :p

That's a nice one! I like that long pull. Congrats!

Happiness loves company, too.

It is going to be a real user. I look forward to developing a nice patina over time.

My primative bone #20 arrived today. F&F is great! Both blades are sharp enough to shave hair which is so much better than many other knives I have received over the year. Pull on the main blade is about an 8 but should smooth out with use. The pen has a nice smooth "5" pull. Great size that slips in the pocket well and also fits my hand perfectly.
I'll take detailed pictures next time I dig out my camera.
