Thinking about a Case Large Stockman

…in CV, of course. Do these carry OK in the pocket? I'm a country boy, so I'm used to carrying a larger slipjoint. My most common EDC til now has been a Buck 301, which isn't much smaller. Just wanted to ask some of you who've put some miles on one.

And yeah, I know - inspect it in person if possible. 😁

Thanks!

I think the Case is bulkier, and the blade is over 3", in case you live where that matters. 4.25 closed instead of 3 7/8 for the 301?

Great Caesar's Ghost!!! I hadn't thought about the freaking blade length! Not a problem in my jurisdiction, but I often visit my sister where anything over 3" is a big no-no. Plus, live right next door to a city that's 3.5". I'm trying to find exact blade length specs for this knife, but am having trouble. Can anybody point me to them? Thanks.

Case has been making a nice stockman pattern for years. They went to a tooling change in 2005 that impacted the medium stockmans, but I can't say about the big ones. They continue to have an authorship with their knives that is unmistakably nice, although I think they could do a better job adding different woods and some of their old bone colors.

I had my eye on a Small Texas Jack at first, but thought I would prefer something bigger in the hand. Since the blade length might turn out to be a deal-breaker for me, might look at that or a Medium Stock. I think I've heard good things about the Tex Jack on here before.

The Texas jack is a winner. I can't imagine anyone wanting a traditional pocket knife not liking it.

I just measured the blade on my 6375 Stockman. From tip of bolster to tip of blade it's 3 5/16". The edge itself is 2 13/16".

I carry a large Case Stockman perhaps more than any other knife. It carries well in the right front pocket of my Carhartt work pants which is my everyday wardrobe. It's a big, sturdy knife. One of my very favorites.

Hey, I really appreciate the measurement. Okay, so over 3", but not over 3.5". Might still be a contender.

Thanks!!!

My wife just got me a medium stockman and it's perfect for edc. I've got a lot of big honkin' knives. I love giant choppers and folders. However, they aren't really super practical for daily use.

The stockman gives me a nice large clip point for bigger tasks and two smaller blades for general tasks. Most every task I need done can be handled with a stubby sheepsfoot.

For the price, walk and talk are just fine. The edges needed about 10 minutes of tlc to get to pass my inspection for sharpness. I will say there are a fair amount of service scratches and rub on the clip and sheep blades. If this was a presentation piece I would he pretty dang upset. However, I don't buy knives that won't be used hard, so it didn't bother me more than 5 minutes.

Wonderful little edc for just about any task.

Have the same knife (6375 CV in Amber Bone). Measurements on my clip blade match those^ numbers EXACTLY.

Trout,

Arizona's love for his 6375 got me hooked. It is a big boy, but still works for EDC even though I live in the land of cubicles. I feel like the knife has just about everything you need in a knife....solid, sturdy, great W and T, snap, blade options. Little bit of rub on the blades.......but that's it.

My 6375 was a little too light/orange with the bone......but a simple coffee break fixed that.

I also love the 032 STJ and the 032 Med. Stockman........which are my primary daily rotation. Love that frame.

Cant go wrong with any of them. Three of my all time favorites.

Warning.........if you read Arizona's thread.......you will get a 6375.

Same with my 6375 main blade. 3 5/16" from bolster to tip when open. The Case Trapper main blade is just a smidge shorter at 3 1/4". My Case Copperhead is dead on 3" open (3 7/8" closed) if you prefer a 2-blade jack pattern that's still a good handful.

I carry a large case stockman, daily, like the one arizonaranchman showed a picture of....I like it.

Lots of 6375 love here! :D

It's BIG but it's great having those three big blades on tap. The above photo comparison of Buck's large Stockman is informative. Close in size.

And in case you prefer a manly lavender color, that is also available:

I'm starting to lean towards the 32 STJ. I love the 6375, but I go enough places with blade restrictions that I just don't feel like having to think about it all the time, especially on fishing and camping trips, etc.

I actually prefer the rounded bolsters on the Medium Stockman, but I don't know that I really need three blades, and I'd just as soon not have an extra blade to keep sharp if it's not necessary, especially a crinked blade. For most of my cutting tasks, I find myself asking if I need a longer or shorter blade, and it probably doesn't make a great deal of difference if it's clip, spey, sheepsfoot, pen, etc. Plus, I'd prefer not to deal with blade rub issues if possible. And, I kinda love the romance of a working man's two blade jack!

I have a gold level dealer nearby that has both in stock. Called today to check, but wasn't EVEN going out there and wade through all the crazies returning their slippers and coffee makers. Maybe tomorrow.

Talk me into a knife!

Case Copperhead: 3 7/8" long, two blades, main blade right at 3" long.

Rounded bolsters, smaller than a Trapper, smaller than the Large Stockman, but bigger than the Small Texas Jack. Above are some of mine (flanked by a couple of their Mini Copperhead kin).
