Thinking about a Case Large Stockman

I carry a 6292 jack in dress slacks with no problem...similar size. I would get a 75 stockman if it came with anything other than a spey.

Is it available in CV? I'd really like something with that steel.
For some reason which I can't fathom, since it's such a great knife, the Case Copperhead is not currently being produced, though it was recently and there are still some in dealer stock. In particular, you can still find them in Molasses Barnboard bone, though the blades on that one are stainless steel.

Case seems to prefer to release knives in SS rather than CV, so their selection in CV steel in current product lines is limited to a few famiiles: http://www.wrcase.com/knives/by_steel/cv/

Though you can find older CV steel Case knives for sales through forums like our Exchange forum and on at least one big auction site if you want to hunt for them.

Can't go wrong with the 6375. I carry either a CV Amber bone or a blue American Workman in SS. Both are great..

I love helping buy a knife - vicarious fun provided by other peoples money - plus you get great pictures of folks favorite knives! Being as you like your Buck 301 I would suggest you also look around for a 6292 Case Texas Jack; they were available in CV steel during their lifetime. Not sure when they were dropped (my newest is a 1996 built version), but I see them on the big electronic auction site regularly. 4" OAL with a 3" Clip Main, a beefy 2-1/4" Pen, and no blade crinking. Both of mine (also have a 1982) snap with authority and they meet your OAL requirements. Of course to you original question, carrying a Case 6375 - I've never carried my 75 pattern knives, but I do carry my Buck 307 regularly (4-1/4" OAL, 3-1/4" main blade length) when hunting - it carries just as nicely in my LFP as does a 301 or 6292 - cannot tell the difference. I am curious, what city in NC is the blade length of a pocketknife an issue? OH
Ps. For a great outcome you could buy a 62032 in CV now as they are readily available and begin a search for a suitable 6292 and acquire it when you find the right one.

Hey, thanks for the info and the pics. I really appreciate it.

My sister lives just outside of Raleigh, and, within their city limits, you can't even have a blade over 3" in your car. (Worthless commies.) I live outside of Charlotte, and you can't carry one over 3.5" there. There are several others that are 3" on parks and greenways, etc., that could affect me on fishing or camping trips.

That's okay though. With my new Texas Jack and my Spyderco Delica, I will be more than prepared, and within compliance. 😉

I live down east, but on occasion go to Raleigh and Charlotte; never knew that, thanks for the heads-up - forewarned is forearmed. When working or off work I usually carry a 4" or less pocketknife (when not hunting). It is odd and funny that under state law I can have my handguns in those cities with whatever firepower (power of the round and mag capacity) I choose but not my big knives - go figure! OH

I never knew either, as it's not widely published, or even discussed. I had been walking around both places with a freakin' Blackhawk CQD clipped to my pocket. I'm with you on the CCW thing. There are quite a few places where I have to leave my knives in the car, but not the gun. NC has some really jacked up weapons laws, for sure.

Here's the best list I've found for local knife restrictions: http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/USKnife2.pdf

I have the large Case-Carhartt Stockman made in 2013 but I carry a Camillus #69 stockman which is 4" long. The Camillus is what I judge all others against, and while Case used to (still does?) make a stockman like the Camillus, the Carhartt model has square bolsters, sharp G10 scales, and lacks the curves of my Camillus; however, all the blades are larger so I would call the large Case an extra-large stock man. Mind you, my Camillus #69 while large in their line up is rather dainty for me compared to any of my locking folders like my Spyderco Endura/Buck BHW/ Lone Wolf T2, etc.

I am currently looking for a Case stockman that has all the curves of my Camillus, hopefully vintage without costing too much as my Camillus cost $20 but the Carhartt Case was $60+.

+1 on the CV 6292 Texas Jack!!!

Here is my 4 1/4" CV Case 6375 Large Stockman with amber jigged bone covers. As stated, the knife is 4 1/4" closed with the main clip blade being 3 5/16" long, the sheepfoot blade being 2 1/4" long, and the spey blade being 2 3/16" long. All blades have a standard nail nick with all blades having a pull of 5 1/2 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the stiffest. All three bldes were very sharp with a good edge out of the box. I really like the Amber Jigged Bone covers on this knife. This particular knife was manufactured in 2012 (November 5 according to the box label). The knife has two springs with the clip blade riding it's own spring while the sheepfoot and spey blades share the second spring. The blades of this knife are also krinked. The fit and finish of this knife is very good with no apparent gaps between liners, springs, or covers and the knife also came sans blade rub, blade wobble, or blade movement. The bolsters are pinched which sets the knife off nicely.

This is the first Case knife I've had with their Amber Jigged Bone. It is very attractive with crisp jigging and nice coloring. I can now see why so many in this forum like this particular bone choice. I think that this picture of the pile side cover of this knife shows off the bone and jigging nicely.

As far as legal carry goes, many jurisdictions waive the blade length for a non-locking knife.

^^^ Ed that's the knife that got me all fired-up about Amber bone and the 6375 - had to have one after seeing those pics! :)

It is a big imposing knife, but I find it fine for winter carry in a coat-pocket. It's too big for carrying in the trouser pocket to my way of thinking and I see no point in belt sheathes for a pocket-knife! Another point in its favour is it is well made and very reasonable cost compared to GEC offerings.

Shown here with Chestnut Bone cv Sodbuster and Medium Stockman in stainless.

Some other alternatives: Böker Germany Stockman in carbon. 4" round bolstersbut is lighter and slimmer than the CASE. Other bone and shields available with this one.

Then there's the 2 blade GEC 66 Jack in many different handles: bone, wood, stag etc 3.5" closed.

willgoy, I LOVE the GEC #66 serpentine jacks. I heavily considered one, but my lower middle class sensibilities just won't allow me to use a $100 knife the way a jackknife is supposed to be used. I might have to have one someday, but just to pet and admire. No way I could carry it like I plan to carry this one.

I know you decided already, but anyway, for me, the 75 pattern was too big.
Some pics from when i got it, actually lots of 'em..

Here is an old photo of mine that shows the relative size of a wide range of stockmen: serpentine, eureka, railsplitter, sowbelly, and equal end.
The little Moore Maker on the left is 3¼" on through to the big Moore Maker on the right at 4⅜".

The jumbo Moore Maker #5304 is one of my favorites, at 4⅜ inches closed. This one in 1095 carbon and burnt white bone from 2002.

I think the current Case which is closest to your 4" Camillus #69 would be the Case 6347 pattern Stockman; it is built on a 3-7/8" Serpentine frame (1/8" shorter) with rounded bolsters - however the knife and blades are all wider than the old Camillus design. OH
