Hello, I am wanting a Strider after many years of knife collecting.. Have had a few crks and I want something a bit more meaty. Smf or Sng... I have been looking on a few forums and have found plenty..The prob. is 95% have some sort of blade play.. Is it likely to have and own a strider and have a good long lasting lockup? thank alot :) Ernie

Id say its all luck.

the few I played with had all some level of blade play, even store clerk says 'its no sebenza'.

I still want one.

get a hinderer; CRK quality, strider robustness.

:)

I've had two striders and both had a bit of lock rock, but not enough to bother me.

95%? How many have you actually handled? I've owned SMFs, SnGs, and a PT, 6 Striders in total, and none of mine have had lock rock, let alone blade play. Buy with confidence! Also, for the cost of shipping, that can be fixed.

I own probably 20 or so Striders and have never had an issue at all with any blade play what so ever!! None of them have any movement at all! Rock solid!! They make a hell of a knife!!

I own 2 SMFs and 1 AR liner lock and none have play.

I had a SnG and it was also solid.

I owned three Striders, all had bladeplay. If you want something meatier with solid lockup I would recommend a ZT, it's almost half the price as well.

I am not sure where these statistics are coming from, but the latest generation (Gen 7 I think) have the new lock design and the one I had was completely rock solid. If you are wanting to order one, just make sure it is the latest generation model and you should be fine.

If you can't find locally and try for yourself, call one of the many fine online shops (BF sponsors of course) that carry Strider and ask if they are willing to physically inspect the knife - have them open it up while you are on the phone and check for blade play themselves. Perhaps that will give you some sense of confidence in your purchase.

I've had two SNG's... one had several issues and another was near perfect.

How much do they cost? And most of them have some sort of blade play.... sounds like a complete waste of money! Go get a tenasious for 30 $ and feel a rock solid knife. Thats horrible on striders part. That's like buying a lamborghini and they all have a screwed up trans from the factory. Another reason I'll NEVER BUY a strider.

I've had 5 SnG's with the new lock geometry. None had any movement in any direction with the blade locked open. If you want it to cut well, get a flat grind.

Just get one if it gets blade play send it back to them and they will fix it, they have the best warranty of any folder period.

I've had a ton of Striders...no blade play or lock-rock. If it ever develops lock-rock with hard use, send it in and Strider will install a new oversized lug on the blade, and you're back in business. Oh yeah, no cost.
Their Customer Service is the FINEST in the business. I KNOW BECAUSE I'VE USED IT.

I've been thinking about buying one of those PT MSC's when they do their next run (I don't want to pay the secondary price). There are some good Youtube vids on it and it will fit perfectly into my small knife collection. Have you heard of that model, Sonny?

Since when do most Strider's have blade play?

"Some" of their folders with the older lockup could develop lock rock with the non-linear cut blade tang but that has been resolved. Even with the older style you really had to use your knife a lot before any lock rock "could" occur. I've never heard of any Strider having "blade play"...if you're buying a new one you shouldn't have any concerns about lock rock or blade play. Plus, Strider allows you to use your knife hard without it voiding your warranty.

If you prefer ZT's, they have several high quality frame locks available as well and they're also built like tanks. You can get a ZT 030X for a little over $200 or the 0550 Gen II for under $200 and either should last you a lifetime.

I have a PT with the old lock up and a SNG with the new and both are extremely solid. I couldnt be happier with them and plan on getting more in the future specially a wharncliffe SNG.

I'd love to buy one, but I need to see it in person before I throw down the cash.
No one stocks them around me which is sad because I live less than 20 miles from Strider.
