Thinking about a Strider...But hate blade play....

get a hinderer; CRK quality, strider robustness.

:)

I've had two striders and both had a bit of lock rock, but not enough to bother me.

My opinion exactly. My lock rock didn't bother me too much either...but the more I thought about how I paid more for the Strider than my CRK which always has solid lock up started to bug me and I had to sell them. The newer lock ups have all been solid for me, the old lock ups...not so much.

I had a hinderer- I would say it has similar fit and finish to a Strider.

In general, I am a CRK guy--have a bunch and absolutely LOVE them in every facet. However, I wanted to try something different so I just pulled the trigger on a Strider SnG with Coyote Tan G-10 and a PD-1 micro melt black blade. It will be delivered tomorrow! I will check it out and post here with any issues I have with it. I emailed Strider for some information and they were quick to respond and are dedicated to keeping customers 100% happy with their purchase. He outlined the warranty which is pretty much bullet-proof.

I am confident it will not REPLACE any of my CRK's, but it may try and hog some pocket love.

You will love it. The PD1 line seems to be particularly nicely done. The ergonomics on the SnG are so nice. I think you wil be carrying a sebenza and a SnG in your EDC from now on

Maybe the new Striders...but all the old ones I had, even my MSC custom were a little wonky. Many people got lock rock on the older Striders as well, so I know it wasn't just a one-off. Never had any problem with any of my Hinderers though...

mine were newer ( traded them off, they were perfect, then had remorse and bought another). The newer ones are very very well done. Its just all these people on the forums saying they suck regardless- either cause of the old lockup or they base the f&f off their distaste for mick.

I used to be able to shake an old lock up SNG like a maraca...it was pretty bad. To be fair, the reason the lock face was rounded was because they wanted the lock bar to never go 100% and get stuck. With a curved lock bar, the lock may only reach 90% in which case you can still wedge anther knife, pry bar, etc, to free the blade and close it again. But the rattle was really bad, and the lock slipped to the left sometimes as well. It did leave a bad impression but I gave them a second chance with the new lock up and was really pleased. I still think Hinderer is better in terms of ergos and stock blade grind, but thats all preference and opinion and not fact. I sold mine because the ffg was just too thick for EDC, same reason I sold my Hinderers, but I think if I got one of those carbon fiber SNgs and got it reground it would make an excellent EDC.

The one I have inbound is CF, Digicam and has unique patterns annodized into the Ti , EXCITED

That seems to be my impression as well. Considering that Stiders come with a no questions asked warranty, I wonder how many people with "issues" with their Striders actually sent them in to get fixed?

I am looking forward to it.

I know nothing about PD-1 and there isn't much that I can find on BF or otherwise. Any knowledge on it?

Also, I know I cannot disassemble the Strider without voiding the warranty. Any tips or tricks to keeping it clean and lubricated?

Disassembling a Strider does NOT void the warranty :D. I put a pair of circlip pliers in a vice, hook it to the pivot, and undo it with an allen key. I think its damage caused from dissembling that isn't compensated and mods that void it.

ANd PD1 is slightly more wear resistant than 3v and tougher at higher hardness than 3v - 3v is tougher at lower hardness. Its brilliant stuff.

The class I put it in is:

3v
Cruwear
Zwear
PD1
Vascowear

I will be darned--I just re-read my email from Strider and you are right, they said as longs as I don't SWAP parts or MODIFY parts then I am fully covered. That is very cool--I am going to buy one of the disassembly tools I guess!

My latest Spyderco was only $50 and it has absolutely, positively, guaranteed ZERO blade play.

How many other knife companies offer a no questions warranty for their folders.
With Strider when you purchase a knife your buying a knife knowing youll have a

If I were you I'd look for the bike chain wrench. It supposedly fits perfectly and is MUCH cheaper. I love my SnG with PD-1. It strops back to hair popping sharp easily.
