Thinking about an EDC fixed blade… 2.5" - 3"…

Here are some really small fixed blade knives (smaller than the Guardian 3):

Dozier D2 wins.

The knife is incredibly comfortable in hand (for me, at least). It is small, but not too small. I can get a full grip on the Modified Personal (and the Mini Fox River, btw); whereas I can only get 3 fingers on the Patriot, with my index finger up against the modified choil/ricasso. The hollow ground blade excels at slicing, which is most of what I want a blade this size to do. Oh, and it's Dozier D2, in case I didn't mention it

Honestly, it's difficult for me to use it because it's so nice. That's why I carry the Arkansas Toothpick far more often. The blade is a little longer, but the handle still fits me well...and the micarta doesn't have the same aesthetic appeal as the wood of the MP.

Here are a couple of pics for comparison. For the first one, I lined up the cutting edge; for the second, I lined up the grip

My Dozier Personal has a modified sheepsfoot blade that is 2.5" in CPM 154 and blue G-10 handles. Quite a nice usable regular carry knife, but not so good for "self defense".

My Dozier K-6 Companion (D-2) has a 3" blade and it carries easily in the horizontal Dozier belt sheath. Has a longer handle than the Personal and as a result is more comfortable in the hand. Have several other Doziers with the Canoe being the smallest. Haven't looked at it in quite a while and probably should dig it out.

Added: I have an interest in the Bradford Guardian, size undetermined as I haven't decided on the purpose of the knife for me. But the LionSTEEL M1 has gotten my attention because I generally like this blade shape for general purposes. It's small, so the vertical leather belt sheath would not be a problem unless wearing something like the Buck 110 belt pouch is a problem (perhaps annoying unless I'm out in the woods).

Have another scalpel shaped fixed blade (handmade) that is interesting as well with a really slim handle.

The LT wright patriot is known for having a small handle but as it sounds like it's for a lady-friend or wife, it might be great. Either the frontier first or frontier valley (I mix them up) is a similar design with a roomier handle.

There have also been a lot of pukko designs that may work, many are longer, and DW Childress frequently has sub-3" knives in the makers forum with some sweet looking deigns, often in 440c and under or around $100. The Childress knives sell pretty quick usually but he puts up a couple a week I think.

Here's one with a sheepsfoot that could make a great EDC (I like sheeps the most for EDC, personally).

I agree with you there! The CM is always on me, guardian in the bag for back up. CM makes a hell of a product, and keeps you up to date during the build. Couldn't recommend him more highly.

I also like GL Drew's fixed blades. Picked this one up second hand for around $60. Same size range as the CM and G3.]

CM has a new product there and I like it. Also glad to see GL Drew's sample...he builds knives that are usually about 3/32" blade-thickness in order that they slice in a great way. There are too FEW blades that are available in a thin stock, and I find just about everything is produced at 1/8" or greater.

You already said that, lol.
I'm not trying to push you over, and I wasn't suggesting the Arkansas Toothpick for you. You asked what I liked about the modified personal, and I told you...if you looked at the picture and decided that it was over 3", that's your mistake. Perhaps you forgot my comment about the Patriot? (such a small knife)
Good luck with your search.

Hey, hhmoore— sorry if i came across as being irritable. i was just having a busy day at work, is all. I didn't feel like you were being pushy.

Nor had i made any assumptions— I googled the knife, and went by what i found.

Thanks for your suggestions, and for your answers. And I hope that I haven't put you off this discussion!

I'm curious what you found about the modified personal that prompted you to reiterate your limit.

No, it was my error— my google search directed me to another, larger knife by the same manufacturer.

Point being that I hadn't simply made assumptions from the photograph.

Oh... not sure why I didn't think of this before.
This might be something that interests you.

From one of the maker's here. Thin, slicey, the right size, comfortable in hand. I bought it second hand, so I can't comment on the price from the maker; but it's probably in the right ballpark.

• The S. Davenport? That's quite the looker. Will check him out further.
• I own, and like, the GM3. It's not really legal here for carry, so it ends up staying at home or in the car, more than I'd prefer.
• How do you like the Anthem?

Yes, the fixed blade. I should have just copied the image link (I was being lazy).
The Anthem was quite a let down, honestly. It looks nice; and it's slim & light, so it disappears in the pocket... but there are too many hot spots. The GM3 is less money, and feels better in hand.

The maker of that fixed blade is samuraistuart

It’s all good. If you’re clearly carrying for benign purpose, it’s ok. But I want one that doesn’t depend on subjective judgment.

I really like small fixed-blades, in a front pocket clipped sheath. I have 3 different Graham Razels that I carry from time to time. Hard to find & way out of your price zone tho. Picked this Landi up here on the makers forum and it's about perfect for carry and less than $60; 2 1/2" blade, 6" oal and slender. I think it's well worth twice the price. It has a dangler belt loop attachment, but I'm going to mod something up for front pocket clip.

I just ment A 4" well for me anyways is the perfect companion knife size.I still stand by the RAT or ESSE 3. Not the prettiest or most exspensive, but they are great working blades.

My favorite, in your blade-length category, is the Survive Knives model 2.7. I love it, and the various S!K models really fit my large hand perfectly.
