thinking about edc/bush knife

It's rough to edc a fixed blad knife for me...I tote a LM wave on the belt...and sometimes have a slippy in the pocket...
I love my Leatherman it's given me years of good service..it is not a great whittler, the handle is a little boxy for extended use...but I imagine if coupled with a larger blade I could make a decent go of it with that as one of my only tools. Yet it lacks the Soul that a cool rustic edc should have. (maybe I'm being a bit dramatic)
I always thought it would be awesome to have my edc be my primary use bush knife...a bush knife that is carried every day is truly a survival knifein the truest sense of the word. This also allows an individual to become more familiar with the blade and develop a real feel for it.
I feel when I travel it is sometimes inapproriate to wear a fixed blade , and I think it would be reassuring to have a substansial edc with "soul"
I guess I', basically looking for suggestions that bridge the gap of edc to bush knife...something that could be coupled with a larger blade to accomplish a multitude of bushcraft tasks.
I'm open to suggestions but am not looking for Saks at the time. THanks for any help

Are you wanting a fixed blade or a folder? I wasn't clear after reading your post.

Hmm that's the real question I suppose, I guess a folder,,as where I live a fb carries too much hype with it, both in the eyes of the public, and the Leo's

Check out Brian's offerings at Off The Map Knives he has a smaller one than his Bushcrafter, that looks to be what you want. I EDC either of 2 of my favorite BRKTs, Mini Northstar, or newer to me, Colonial Patch. Both always seem to get the job done for me as far as knife tasks go. I don't beat on my knives, instead I create tools to beat with my knives.

I have a few different Fixed blades I edc and one is my Izula by RAT Cutlery and my Mini Canadian by BRK&T.... I couple the FB with my LM Wave and SAK "hiker".

to me in TX Fixed blades are not a big deal being strapped to someone, blades under 5" blade never really get a second glance....The folder I like is the Blade Tech Professional Hunter or Spyderco military both S30v blades...

Maybe something like the Izula/Becker necker around the neck (under the shirt) or IWB?

Elsewise, hard to beat an SAK (cough *Farmer* cough). Or maybe a Spyderco?

The Emerson A100 is totally your style John. Wouldnt take much to make it a scandi grind, and its a solid knife.

I plan on getting the mini A100 when it comes out, hopefully by next month. That will be perfect for keeping with the law here, and will be a perfect EDC to field blade.

I have always been on the lookout for this very same thing, and my favorite has to be the Benchmade 940. I really like the pointy yet stout point on it, and the axis lock too. Have had one for years and it works great for edc and woods stuff. http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=940

I don't really know hardly anything about folders, just not my style. I have plenty of pocked fixed blades. There are several choices of neckers. JK's hikers backup is great in the pocket. I'm still in love with my little CEK2 bushcrafter that is great for pocket carry. It is a big bushycrafter in a small package.

It all depends on how much knife you consider 'EDC'. Recently Ive been EDCing a BRKT Pro Scalpel II; I cant see myself considering a larger fixed blade for EDC. It is unassuming and is more than enough knife for me. Even if I was thrown into a survival situation- I could get by with it. It wouldnt be ideal perhaps, but weighing the rather low probability that such a situation would occur against the small profile of the knife at work is a good compromise for me.

I'm afraid your post has me a little confused buddy, are you after a small fixed blade ( and if so what overall size) or are ya after a folder ?

Riley,

How about Buck's new folder offering, the Vantage Pro - S30V, G10, liner lock, one-hander and made in USA for under $50 ? Hard to find right now, but should be out in numbers soon - looks like very good value:

I think that's the first Buck I've ever liked the looks of! If the street price is decent I believe I'll pick one up. Any word on the grind? (Can't tell if it's hollow)

Grind is hollow and almost 1/8th. street price is about 45, so that pretty much demands you pick one up. Plan on getting one soon as i can find one myself.
