Hey guys,

I have been looking at the Fallkniven Northern Lights series and man I have to say those are some seriously beautiful knives. I love the blade shape and the stacked leather is simply gorgeous. I am thinking about getting a TOR or whatever is the correct term for the 10in blade model. I love Busse and Busse kin blades and currently that is all I own in the fixed blade department. I have been thinking about branching out into Fallkniven for a while but their high prices and my doubts about laminated VG10 incomparison to SR101, INFI or SR 77 have kept me from making any purchases.
Do any of you guys own and or use any of the Northern Lights Series? How do they compare to Busse kin in terms of ergos, edge holding, and durability?
I really want to get a big satin bowie and am considering the M-9 ( my first choice), the TOR, the A-2, and a San mai trailmaster.
Since all I own is Busse/busse kin I really want to branch out and try some other stuff but busse kin knives are so excellent I don't think anything can match them in terms of durability and reliability.
So I'm looking at the TOR because it is so beautiful and would be a great changeup, however at a similar price point I could purchase a battle mistress or similar blade that would probably out perform a Fallkniven.

Help!

Happy Holidays

They are definitely nice knives, despite the cost. The only thing I didn't like was the handle. I thought that the leather would have more purchase/grip to it, but instead it was somewhat slick. YMMV.

I may actually get an a-2 as it is half the cost and still looks great. Does anyone have any experience with that knife?

Have you tried doing a search? There's a lot of Fallkniven stuff if you look. As far as stainless fixed blades go, I don't think they can be beat in the production knife field. They are worth every penny. I've had an A1 (solid VG10 version) for over ten years, and it is still going strong. Great edge holding and toughness. The laminated blades are supposed to be about 20% tougher. I don't think you'd be disappointed!

I absolutely love the Northern Lights series from Fallkniven. If I could afford it I would buy a Tor today! Currently though, I only own the NL5 Idun. Fit and finish is superb and, in the hand, it feels as good as it looks. The materials are top notch IMO and I own other big choppers from CS, Scrapyard and Swamp Rat with the Chopwieler being my preferred camp/chopper blade. However, on hikes and woods walks the Idun is always on my belt. IMO you cannot go wrong with any of the Fallkniven line but the Northern Lights series adds a little "prettiness" to functionality. Good luck choosing.

Right now im actually leaning towards the A-2. It is very pretty and half the price. But man the Thor is about as beautiful as a production knife gets. Its primary purpose would be a large all arounder for day hikes. Im not a fan of small knives. Ill reserve my dofather + RMD combo for camping trips and heavy heavy use. I am really craving a Fallkniven :D

I should have also mentioned that I do have an A-1 as well and I love it as well. I really don't think you can go wrong with either the A2 or the Tor.

I use Fallkniven & Busse.
Fallkiniven are very good.
In fact they are Very, very , very , very, very Good.:thumbup::thumbup:

One thing Busse dont have is Rolls Royce looking models.

Agreed. Alot of busse knives are very good looking like a satin battle mistress but when I got my dogfather first thing I thought was "Dear Lord this thing is so ugly its beautiful." I want a pretty knife for a change.

Great knife!

You got ta ask ya self , what ya want to do with the knife?

Unless you want to split .50 cal projectiles or cut through a brick wall a lot of lesser steels is all you need. Vg10 is a great steel but so is ATS, 440 c, 1095.
.

I use a old Puma White hunter in stainless a lot. it chops as good as any and slices as good as any. and i can skin , butcher a deer with out any problem.
Just yesterday a choped up a hard dry Australian log and choped through a 2"X 4" pine beam and still shaved hair off my legs. Good steel is good steel , no matter what number or letters define what it is.

Fallknivens are one ofthe best knives around. Go for it

So I just bought a black and tanker grey swamp rat m9 over a TOR or A-2. I Feel like I will be much more likely to heavily use a rat but at the same time I could have purchased a TOR for 380 bucks. Ah I hate it when Im so torn! can't I just have both? :grumpy:

Congrats on the new knife.

If you are considering Fallkniven again in future, buy with confidence.

I own all of the NL series, but the NL5cx is my only user, I also have an A2 as a heavy use camp/yard knife.

I don't own Busse, so I can't compare, but Fallkniven makes great knives, I would be very surprised if you found yourself disappointed purchasing one.

Merry Christmas
Kevin

Ive had it I'm getting an A1. I think I have enough big choppers with the a dogfather, M9, and soon to be rodent solution. The A-1 seems like a great medium sized knife. I'm really digging the thickness.

So I just found a TOR on ebay and got it for 312 bucks. If any of you guys were selling it THANK YOU.

Congrats again on another fine new knife.

And a great score on a TOR.

To clear up one of your previous inquiries, the knife is named Tor after the god of Thunder. It is often spelled Thor in english.

Enjoy your new thunder blade.

I'm was toying with an A1/A2 purchase and was shocked to see the price jump between the two for, as best as I can tell, only an inch and a half more blade length. They are $100 apart on one reputable site!
All other specs seem to be equal.
I don't get it....
They both appear to be great, though, and the Tor is SWEET.
Congrats on that purchase...
We'll need some pics when you get it.

I can't wait to get both knives in! And I may need to find some odd jobs because I am broke as a joke right now. Oh well its the price of being a steel addict! :D
